Central London to Luton airport

Can anyone help. I'm going to be staying in crenral London for a week and I'm looking at flights for when I leave. The best price/time flight leaves from Luton airport. When I look at Trainline it says the journey takes an hour or so. I just want to ask, does anyone know how easy that is. I will be travelling with two small
Kids and a suitcase. Would Gatwick be easier?

It's really easy from st Pancras. I have done it a few times. Where abouts in London will you be staying?

DaphneFanshaw · 14/09/2019 07:34

From what I can remember, it takes longer to go to Gatwick from London. I have done both. You do need to get a shuffle bus from Luton Airport station to the airport, but it wasn't a problem for us.

I'm staying in Knightsbridge. I don't know London at all.

Knightsbridge to Victoria and Victoria to Gatwick is very easy... but otherwise there is a coach straight to outside Luton terminal from Victoria and I would probably do that as you are on it then with the kids and get delivered to the door.

Thanks so much. The coach looks perfect

The train from St Pancras to Luton (and then the shuttle bus) is quick and easy, and it's a much smaller airport so possibly more friendly with children in tow? I'd always fly from Luton by choice.

DameSquashalot · 14/09/2019 07:46

It's quicker to get to Gatwick from Knightsbridge (50 mins compared to 1hr 20), but the shuttle bus sounds like a better option if travelling in your own with kids.

This is based on travelling from Harrods according to Google Maps.

sunshinesandwaves · 14/09/2019 07:47

Yep as others have said direct train from Luton to St Pancras is around 30 mins.

From Luton airport you can pick up a shuttle bus that will take you to Luton airport parkway train station in under 10 minutes and from there you can catch a train into London.

Train is the Thameslink service through London, although as PPs have said, you then need a shuttle bus to the airport.

TfL's Journeyplanner covers the route to Luton Airport Parkway station but factor in the bus to the airport.

Both are quite easy. For Luton you can take the Piccadilly tube line from Knightsbridge straight to Kings Cross. Train from Kings Cross to Luton Airport Parkway. There is a bus transfer from Luton Airport Parkway train station to the airport but it’s really straightforward and takes about 15 min only. It’s a small train station and there is always an airport bus and staff waiting right outside. The tube part will be the most annoying with kids and luggage but not sure if your budget stretches to an Uber or taxi to either Victoria or Kings Cross station? If it does then both journeys will be very child friendly.

Thanks very much for your advice. When you don't know the city it can be hard to know what to do for the best

I know, it can be a bit worrying. Don't worry though it will be fine. Hope you enjoy your trip.

Westfacing · 14/09/2019 08:17

Unless there's a significant price difference in flying from Luton, if I were you I'd get an Uber or C1 bus to Victoria, only about a mile away, then the Gatwick Express train.

Particularly as you're travelling with two young children and luggage.

Westfacing · 14/09/2019 08:19

The C1 stops at Knightsbridge tube station.

Kannet · 14/09/2019 08:27

What's the C1

It's a bus route.
