Would you throw it? I like to use for my weaning baby but a bit miffed it says to use within 3 days of opening. Would you throw after 3 days???

I keep it till it goes a funny colour... at least a week!

Pringlemunchers · 13/09/2019 13:35

Honestly ? For the baby yes , but I would eat it until it starts looking/ smelling a bit funky then chuck

No. ..I throw it if it's mouldy. Do you mean a phillidelphia type cheese or a dairylea type cheese? Both last way longer than 3 days.

Herocomplex · 13/09/2019 13:36

I’d eat it after three days, but I wouldn’t give it to the baby.

Soola · 13/09/2019 13:36

I ignore dates and go by sight, smell and taste.

MustardScreams · 13/09/2019 13:37

I keep it till there’s fur on it. I’ve never eaten cream cheese in 3 days. Dd was weaned on it and never come to any harm eating 4 day old cc.

DementorsKiss · 13/09/2019 13:37

no, far longer than 3 days - when it goes off it get's a little liquid at the bottom or grows fluff

Coffeeandchocolate9 · 13/09/2019 13:37

I wouldn't - but then I'm not weaning a baby!

Are you confident it's been stored correctly with minimal time outb of the fridge etc and knife not double dipped?

If it were me personally it gets until it grows visible mould Blush if for friends and family it would probably still get 5 days. For a weaning baby I might stick to the manufacturer guidelines, however frustrating Sad

HerSymphonyAndSong · 13/09/2019 13:38

It keeps for a good couple of weeks. I have given it to my son with no ill effects

Fabuleuse · 13/09/2019 13:40

I'd probably go a week or so, as long as no visible mould etc. That's what I did with mine and they're still breathing. I started buying the little triangles of Laughing Cow (actually Lidl's much cheaper version) as no-one else in the house really eats cream cheese and so we were chucking a mostly full tub quite regularly.

dementedpixie · 13/09/2019 13:43

I keep it until it starts to go green

DontCallMeShitley · 13/09/2019 14:06

It might be because of the ingredients, I recently looked to see what was in it and it isn't cheese really, take a look.

I decided not to buy it. Had read that it had changed a while ago but I don't buy it often, won't be buying it again.

Chopsicle · 13/09/2019 14:07

I'll buy those individual ones in future then. I hate waste :(

Philadelphia ingredients are Full Fat SoftCheese,Salt,Stabiliser (Locust Bean Gum),Acid (Citric Acid) so it most certainly is cheese Confused. The branded one says to say to use within 1 week but I would still go by look and smell

lorettalemon · 13/09/2019 15:22

I find mould appears in it unbelievably quickly even though it's in a fridge in a plastic tub. I don't know if it's coincidence but the supermarket own brands seem to go off quicker than Philadelphia but I think the tubs are less airtight

DontCallMeShitley · 16/09/2019 01:45

The ones I looked at were supermarket brand but am sure I also looked at Philly and was put off by something in it.
