What job can I get with no stress?

I'm currently working as a teaching assistant but need to get out. The problem is I'm coming to realise that I dont cope well with stress. I suffer with anxiety anyway and need a job that won't exacerbate that. I haven't got many qualifications but have experience as a ta, receptionist and in customer services.

Any suggestions?
Tia

If you don't like working with children and only work as a TA because of the hours (I don't mean that as a criticism, just an observation) then I think a SEN school would not be a good fit.

I worked as a library assistant for a while - definitely not stressful but I found it quite boring which surprised me as I love reading. I think it was all the putting books back on shelves, like filing and I hate filing.

I think a really boring job has its own stress - e.g. Scanning, filing.

One admin job can be very different from another depending on your actual tasks and the people you work with.

I have a quite specific admin role and I love it.

I have worked as a TA in the past, and didn’t really find it stressful - maybe you’re just not in the right school, so it might be worth looking into another before changing to a completely different job?

I used to do shop work and found that quite stress free. Although it wasn't full time, it was on top of something else, so perhaps only being part time made it more relaxing.

I've been a TA in two mainstream schools and I hated it with a passion. I struggle with anxiety too and I find mainstream has too much focus on targets and results. SEN has always been more for me. I now work as a TA in a specialist school for children with autism and I absolutely love it. Despite the very challenging behaviour, it's fascinating. I work in a team so there isn't the pressure on one person to deal with a situation. It's my happy place and it's also the place I'm least anxious. It really might just be the wrong sort of school for you. I used to go home from mainstream in tears and dread going in. I'm currently off on maternity and can't wait to go back to my school! Hope you find something.

Not the point of the thread but I find it a bit shocking that TAs, who are really badly paid, are expected to provide the role of a qualified teacher when cover is needed. I presume you don't get a salary bump up for this?

Namechangeforthiscancershit · 13/09/2019 18:53

I think while you are doubting yourself so much, it will be hard to find the perfect job.

It sounds to me like you have loads of skills but have been ground down a bit.

SuzieQ10 · 13/09/2019 19:02

A local council library.
Sometimes they call the library assistants Customer Services Officers. In my local area it pays a little bit more than TA too.

PurpleCrazyHorse · 13/09/2019 19:02

@UnimpressorOfCocks Higher Level Teaching Assistants are trained to cover classes (and their extra training brings a higher salary) and in my daughter's school they do this until we get agency cover in.

I do admin in a school and it's super busy. Not enough staff (not enough budget) and sometimes not the equipment you need. So although my job is quite low stress, it's more stressful because there's so much for one person to do, everyone wants data/results/reports.

I would also be quite angry if I was a parent who found out the TA was teaching my child rather than the actual teacher. This is what supply teachers are for!

Sounds like you should try being a TA in a different school before giving up OP.

Wouldn't it be lovely if there was a job as a kitten cuddler. In reality I

onemorecakeplease · 13/09/2019 19:18

I was going to say dog walker too, but don't let them off lead if you don't like stress 😂

Receptionist or admin - easy and chilled if you get the right company

Gp reception not so much!! Angry patients and germs aplenty!

losenotloose · 13/09/2019 20:22

We do actually get paid extra to cover the teacher but I still don't want to do it! They never hire agency staff. I do wonder if the pressure would be different in a sen school. I'm not suggesting it's stress free but there would be less children per adult.

Librarian is something I'm looking out for too.

A friend of mine gave up being a TA to become a self-employed cleaner as it was less hassle. As others have said though, no sick pay, holiday pay, pension contributions etc.

dimsum123 · 13/09/2019 21:01

I'm another one doing admin, scanning, uploading, data entry. Very repetitive but stress free. But I only work 20 hours a week, if I did it full time I would get totally bored and have to leave.

TroysMammy · 13/09/2019 21:09

Don't know what happened there. In reality I'm GP Receptionist. I wouldn't say it was stressful just busy and if you have lovely patients like we do being shouted at is rare. People can be frustrating, entitled and rude but it goes over my head, although I don't suffer from anxiety. I've never had the feeling of dread when I wake up to go to work and you get a never ending supply of cake, biscuits and chocolate given to you. This week I've been given a bar of dark chocolate, plums, cooking apples and a cucumber!

ShimmeryShiny · 14/09/2019 08:10

@TroysMammy a cucumber lol

zafferana · 14/09/2019 08:14

I wouldn't want to work reception in a GP surgery - it's very busy and people can be very arsey with receptionists if they can't get an appointment, or with who them want, on the timescale they expect, etc. Dental surgery probably better. But tbh I reckon reception in an ordinary 9-5 type company would be pretty stress free. Cleaning is good too if you have a group of regular clients who you clean for at the same time each week. Around here you get around £12 an hour, cash in hand, so it's not bad money either.

SheChoseDown · 14/09/2019 09:21

Supermarket.
Loads of excellent perks (discounts, ticket subsidies, free events etc) Totally stress free. I was in an incredibly stressful, long hours job then I got a job in a supermarket and it was the best decision. Really social, as easy or challenging as you want your day to be. I start early and finish early. Such a fab mix of people working there too and career progression if you fancy it.
