How much protein to have a day?

Just properly started going to the gym again, im going 4-5 days a week, pretty intense work outs. Had a PT for a few sessions to set me up with a program. I am in so much pain after every work out which is good. But i hardly have any protein in my diet at all and i know this is important as im doing a lot of muscle building. I dont eat meat, i dont really like it, i dont eat eggs, i just dont eat much involving much protein. So ive just ordered protein whey powder online, ive done some research but still not 100% about how much i should be taking each day and when/ how much i should be drinking at a time. I am very short (4'11) and i weigh 8 stone. Does anybody have any advice?
Thanks.

A rough guide is 1g protein per 0.8-1.2 kg of bodyweight.

Ideally this should be split into about 35 g portions at a time maximum as the body can't absorb more than this so it's a waste and just extra calories. Easiest way is to get in as high protein breakfast as possible, that way you'll find it easier to hit your target by the end of the day.

Be careful of getting it all from protein powder. Whole foods are much better for you as you're eating it with the fibre and nutrients you need. Some protein powders have added chemicals etc.

Try not to get too hung up on it! Work hard in the gym and fuel your body and you'll make progress, good luck.

For your height and weight you need a minimum of about 40g of protein. Recommended ideal levels are around 50-90g, depending on how much and hard you exercise. Most pulses have about 6-9g per hundred grams. Peanuts have 20g per 100g. Most foods have a bit of protein, so unless you eat very little food overall, you are probably getting a reasonable amount each day just from whatever it is you do eat. It might be worth your while properly adding up how much you eat and then think about what adjustments you can make.

It depends what you are trying to achieve. What is your goal?
