How do I wash old Lego?

cornstarch · 12/09/2019 09:07

I've found a big box of Lego and duplo in the loft. Is there an easy way of washing this ready for the new generation to play with? I've put other plastic toys in the dishwasher and they have come out sparkling. Any ideas please?

Dishwasher!

Put in a wash bag or old pillowcase, secured with pegs and wash on a short wash cycle. Or the dishwasher but w/m better.

Dishwasher but on a cool short run.

Maybe stick em in a net bag and then dishwasher / washing machine ?

I was going to say let the children play with it in the bath but see you're not at that point yet. Smile

And to dry them, if its sunny, lay them them in a patch of sunlight. Underfloor heating even better

Old pillowcase. Tied at top. Quick wash in washing machine

Shosha1 · 12/09/2019 09:30

Pillowcase, knot the top and put in washing machine at 40. Do not spin, it makes a shell of a racket Grin.

I'm a retired CM and used to fo this regularly

StroppyWoman · 12/09/2019 09:32

Definitely washing machine as effective and easy. I did loads last year.
Spread it out on towels afterwards to drain any water and dry properly before putting it away again

I took Lego home from my classroom and put it in pillowcases on a short cool wash. I soaked it in some sort of Dettol stuff first.

I use mesh laundry bags in the dishwasher.

I’ve also started hovering our lego occasionally Grin with a pair of tights stretched over the hoover. It is stored under the bed where the dust monster lives.

It's been MANY years but I remember my DM putting mine in a double layer of tights and chucking them in the washer ( well twin tub ) then when the ware done going outside and thwanging them around for a bit before pegging the tights to the line.
God knows what the neighbours thought Grin
