I've accidentally bought men's shoes...

... online shopping. Never occurred to ne that these lovely dark blue suede brogues were men's. They're not going to fit, are they? I could word the question in a way that Google understood.

Did you order your size though? Might fit ok unless they are quite wide.

dudsville · 11/09/2019 16:23

Sorry for the typos. Yes I did order my size. They look narrow and not in any way bulky.

They’ll probably be fine then.

BusterGonad · 11/09/2019 17:20

Why wouldn't they fit? Aren't trainers unisex in sizing? So presumably shoes are too.

homemadecommunistrussia · 11/09/2019 17:28

I like to buy boy's shoes, cheaper and wider-hooray!Smile

dudsville · 11/09/2019 20:41

Fx!

"Aren't trainers unisex in sizing?"

Not usually. Mens are wider, with larger toe box

womaninthedark · 11/09/2019 20:48

I always buy men's shoes. Despite being a woman, I have men's feet. Size 6, but shaped as men's shoes are shaped, not tapered like women's shoes.

I find men's shoes more comfortable, much more supportive, easier to walk in and if I had to run I'd have my best chance in men's shoes, not women's. Shoes are a feminist issue - women's shoes are designed to put you at a disadvantage. They're also a lesbian issue - it's actually true that women look at your shoes to see if you're lesbian or not .

I think you'll be happy with your purchase.

SparklyMagpie · 11/09/2019 20:49

Sorry but

"larget toe box"

😂😂😂

BeeFarseer · 11/09/2019 20:53

I bought a pair of men's brogues on purpose once, for a job interview. I was actually angry at how well made and comfortable they were, because women's shoes at the same price came nowhere near the same standard.

redchocolatebutton · 11/09/2019 20:59

yabu (I know I know) for buying shoes online. shoes need to fit properly.

I have weird feet, wide at the front and narrow at the heel. men's styles often fit me better.

BusterGonad · 12/09/2019 05:05

@AuntieStella thank you, I didn't know that!

Wallywobbles · 12/09/2019 06:43

I bought some beautiful size 39 brogues which were massive on arrival. At least 40 or 41. Disappointing.

Sniv · 12/09/2019 07:11

Er, no, it's not...?

Unless you write "I'm" on one shoe and "gay" on the other, footwear is not a reliable marker of sexuality.

Will0wtree · 12/09/2019 07:31

Aren't mens shoes a size larger than women's? So a men's size 7 is a woman's size 8?

VolcanionSteamArtillery · 12/09/2019 07:37

Just try them on. Shoes can vary in size anyway depending on make.

Buy most my shoes online, just return the ones that don't fit/like

lilypips · 12/09/2019 07:38

Fucking hell Hmm

What an apt user name though Grin

homemadecommunistrussia · 12/09/2019 07:41

I have an idea that US sizes are different, but UK and European sizes are the same afaik.

The actual fuck?!

People must be well confused by me (men's brogues, DMs, straight) and DD (high heels, ballet pumps, gay), then.

bumblingbovine49 · 12/09/2019 07:50

I wear a lot of men's shoes ( size 8-9 feet) andd they are often wider but in my experience a tiny bit shorter proportionately . So my DHs size 8s ( yes he has smaller feet than me in theory!) Usually fit but they can sometimes feel a tiny bit short as in my big toe brushes the end of the shoes sometimes which DH with his hobbit like feet has no problem with Grin.

AuntieStella · 12/09/2019 07:51

The size (length) is the same, but a shoe or trainer made on a men's last will be wider.

So if you have medium or narrow feet, you are (probably) better off with footwear from a women's last. Wider feet might find mens width comfier

I think the 'women in comfortable shoes' is an homage to Good Morning Vietnam

dudsville · 12/09/2019 12:53

redchocolatebutton, I ordered them from a shop I know well so I know my size and fit from them..

Hm, they've still not arrived, but I'm interested to see how they fit. Like beefarseer I am often annoyed at the superior quality of men's clothes at a far cheaper price to women's of the same quality. I frequently buy men's tees and merino and cotton pullovers. I also don't like my loafers and brogues to be glittery or "feminised".

womaninthedark, I'm cool with it if people look at my shoes and make assumptions about my sexuality.

Can you link them? I’m after a new pair.

HippyChickMama · 12/09/2019 13:28

They may be ok, some men's formal style shoes (as opposed to trainers) are quite narrow. I've discovered this since ds has been in men's sizes for shoes, it can be quite difficult to find school shoes for his wide, flat feet!

FinallyHere · 12/09/2019 13:46

have men's feet

If you compare the shape of shoes to the shape of feet, you notice that generally speaking 'men's shoes' are foot shaped while women's shoes are 'I don't mind the pain we have to suffer to look good shaped'.

Sigh.
