Possible asperger's in 13 year old boy, process question

For many various reasons, I am considering exploring the signs of Asperger's that DS1 (aged 13) is showing, or rather that have got a lot more pronounced in the last year or two. Everything I have read says the first step is to visit a GP, but I can't find anything which says whether or not I should take DS1 with me in this initial appointment! I know it's not an actual rule and it's up to me to decide, but I don't know what would be best and would really appreciate advice from those that have done this! Smile

It was the headteacher who set the ball rolling for us. I went to ask for advice and she told me she suspected asd and set the wheels in motion. THis was at primary tho.

In our area referrals have to come from the schools not the gps. It is different all around the country though, have you approached the senco at school?

The GP can refer. If your son will go to the appointment then take him. You can always hand the doctor a letter outlining your concerns. Him being present would mean the doctor can also ask him questions.

I saw the GP for my DD. DS had been referred by school a few years before. Speak to school and ask the best way forward, it was them who told me to see the GP. I don't know where you live but it's unlikely it would be an Aspergers diagnosis, it's usually ASD now.
