Location.. is it everything?

I'm after other people's opinions on what is more important. Location or house? Would you rather live in a better location in a slightly smaller house, or in a larger house in a worse location?

Location 2, no doubt.

FudgeBrownie2019 · 11/09/2019 17:09

Location is far more important for me. We live somewhere I love and I wouldn't compromise on that.

Disfordarkchocolate · 11/09/2019 17:13

Location 2, the driving for everything will soon get very annoying.

jay55 · 11/09/2019 17:36

Living in a damp property with vermin is miserable whatever the location.
There is a level where one is traded for the other I think.

Location!

I bought my absolute dream house in a town I wasn't familiar with (DH hometown) and he said of course it's great (he didn't know at the time how much it had changed).

I've done a couple of threads recently about my area, and if people would move in my position. They would.

I have an absolutely beautiful house, with all the room and more that I need, and I can't enjoy it because the area and neighbours are bloody awful.

Moving forward we are looking at location first, then trying to find the right house. Good luck in your move Thanks

Location but it has to be detached, size I'm not that bothered about.
For you location 2 sounds preferable if you still feel comfortable in that area.

berlinbabylon · 11/09/2019 17:55

Location. I am not that keen on my house, but the location is really good, close to town, quiet road, plenty of land around the houses, although the houses themselves aren't that big (60s road, now they'd have fitted in half as many houses again!).

I suppose you can always do work to a house to make it perfect. You can't move it.

fannyanney · 11/09/2019 19:37

I'm thinking location might win this one. It's a much more sociable area with low crime and a fair bit to do.

Location every time for me. Kids can walk to school in 2 mins and before school stuff and after school stuff is sorted as they can walk home.
Our place is small. Would like more space but could never afford it in this area.

EdtheBear · 11/09/2019 19:54

I'd go with location 2, walking distance too school etc.

Being out in the sticks means reliant on cars. You never know the day when something happens to you broken arm or something and you can't drive for weeks or car has an issue and your stuck.

Unless your a real country bumkin who wants the rural life. Then I'd go with 2

BelindasGleeTeam · 11/09/2019 19:58

I'd love to be more rural but kids are heading up to teens. Here there's buses and a station that's easy to get to for them to venture further afield.

Worth it to stay in our house....which was a stop gap move but after 10 years I still love it. It's such a homely house and the kids have friends so close, as do we.

To me that's more important than the flash bigger pad

Sconesat4 · 11/09/2019 20:59

Location every time.

ICouldBeSomebodyYouKnow · 11/09/2019 22:05

Location is absolutely key.

Given the resources (ie money, time, talent) you can do an awful lot to a house to improve it to suit yourself, your family and your lifestyle. But the one thing you can't do is move it!

Gertie75 · 11/09/2019 22:51

I'd choose option 1, our house is fairly big and I love the feel of space around me, you live inside the house and garden not outside.

Unless it was a high crime, dodgy area then I'd go for the big house and garden.

A 10 minute drive is nothing, I live on a street so have neighbours and the kids never play outside and hardly walk anywhere, we always drive to the shops, park, friends houses.

I've lived near shops and "things to do" in the past but got sick of the litter, extra traffic, traffic noise, people walking home drunk after the curry house etc
