Too early for workmen?

Is 7.30 am too early for noisy workmen to be hammering & drilling next door?
My neighbours are generally inconsiderate pricks anyway so I’m not sure what’s a acceptable anymore.

It'd be early for me but my neighbours also do this and on weekends too! Some people are just unaware and / or selfish.

Different councils have different regulations. Most tend to be 8am-6pm.

My council is 8:30 to 6:00 M-F, 8:30 to 12:30 Saturday no working Sunday or BH. Only problem of course is getting the council to come out and enforce it.

Check with the council.

I work in construction, 8.00 for noisy works in built up areas. I'd be having a word

bluetongue · 12/09/2019 11:03

It’s 7am weekdays where I am. No work allowed on Sunday or bank holidays. I have gone over to have a word with the relevant policy on my phone to show offending workmen on a few occasions. Mostly they have told me they have no idea the regulations exist (yeah right) or another time that they needed to get work done before it rained.

Lots of new builds going up in my street so I’ve had to do this pretty often the last couple of years.

8am on weekdays AFAIK, check your local councils regulations. I’m almost always awake by 7:30am but I still wouldn’t be pleased with this.

When we had our gas pipe and meter installed, they started at 7am on the dot (they arrived earlier than that and got their equipment out ready to go). Not sure what the rules are, but I'd have thought 7.30am as most people are up for work, children or starting to wake up at that time if they've got a day off.

MattMagnolia · 12/09/2019 13:25

I’ve had a workman here for two weeks and he’s never arrived before 10am. I can’t help suspecting he’s hung-over every morning and can’t get out of bed.
7.30 is perfectly acceptable, most people are up if not on their way to work by then.

PutBabyInTheCorner · 12/09/2019 13:30

My workmen usually start at 7, really noisy stuff from 8 I'd say. I'd assume on week days most people would be up by then anyway.

from123toabc · 12/09/2019 14:18

I wouldn't complain about anything after 7am but that's probably only because I'm up then anyway.
