Can we avoid a double buggy?

Dc1 will be 18m when dc arrives if all goes well so I'm starting to think about what we may need. Dc1 lived in a carrier for the first 6 months of his life, he hated a pram and i found a pram a hassle so it worked well for us, however i know with 2 things may be different. I know i may want to give dc1 attention while dc2 sleeps or something out and about but a lot of me is thinking I'd like to avoid the cost of a double.

Has anyone managed it? I'm likely to buy second hand if we do get one so if we are going to get a double I'd need to decide before baby arrives so i have time to get one of the two i am considering.

I have the mountain buggy duet. It's been really good. It's narrow enough to go through door ways, has a large enough basket underneath to do a decent shop and is easy enough to get on public transport. It's also reasonably easy to push off road.

We have a 20 month gap. I got a double second hand but only used it twice.

I usually put the baby in the sling and take my toddler in a buggy or he would walk depending on the distance. I found it much easier to run after a toddler with the sling on, then with a massive pram. My baby would also only nap in the sling so it was the only way to get any peace. If I needed a break my toddler could hop out for a while. When they got bigger the little one would go in the buggy and the older one would walk, but I had the sling in case he got tired.

I didn’t drive at the time and the thought of using a double buggy on a bus completely put me off from going out. People often used to comment that it looked like hard work with the buggy and sling but I honestly really liked it.

@Kpo58 most people seem to be really positive about it,only negative I've heard is weight but i can cope with that.

@jhaniver that would be my ideal but i think i will get one just in case, seeing as i want second hand i cant just get a next day delivery and I'll sell it should i be able to get away with single and sling

I would get a double I had a bigger age gap and needed one I just got a cheapie Joie side side buggy it lays flat for newborns I put a car seat head hugger snug thing and had her in it and to be fair it was the best pram I'd ever had.

I’ve got the out and about nipper double and I love it.

I think you need one..... if you are shattered, in pain, had a difficult birth, backache, dc driving you crazy.... you need to pop out somewhere, then a double buggy is easy and above all a safe option where they're strapped in and they can't run off. Sling is all very well when baby is tiny but when yours are 3 and 18m then not so good.

@ishitglitter unfortunately i doubt that joie would cope where i live, i need to look down a more off road line but thank you fir the suggestion

@Tigerwhocamefortea we have the single nipper and i love it but i really want dc2 parent facing a bit longer, although I'm considering whether i could use that with a joie i level or cybex cloud q car seat to extend the parent facing past the very short period dc1 coped in the carry cot
