Hair bobbles for high ponytails. Jeez.

Can’t bear the excitement. Grin

DD has thick hair and at her new school every single girl has a high ponytail. I am struggling a bit as all of her hair bobbles seem to want to go round three and a half times, three times is a bit loose, but I can’t get four. Ponytail is therefore slipping down a lot.
What a conundrum. Any ideas? Different bobbles or something else?

Scrunchies are back in apparently!

LoseLooseLucy · 10/09/2019 16:05

Yep, scrunchies are back in, bizarrely.

This has been the bane of my life. For me: 2,5 times for optimal tightness. Constant slipping!

Use 2 hair bands together

PullingMySocksUp · 10/09/2019 16:08

Maybe I need to buy a scrunchie and hope it’s a good fit or replace/adjust the elastic with the right length.

I did wonder about two bobbles. I’ll give that a go.

Try the spiral telephone wire type ones, I find they stay put really well.

Jammiebammie · 10/09/2019 16:10

3 dds here, thickest hair ever. I double (or triple) hair bobbles (I actually rate the primark ones or goodys) and then put a scrunchie on top too if they want.
One dds hair is so thick we have to tie half a ponytail first then another bobble tying the bottom section up to the top. You can also link the bobbles together which makes them tighter but doesn’t look as neat.

ineedmoresleepnow · 10/09/2019 16:13

Use two. Do the bottom half with one and then all with the second. It gives a bit more bounce to the ponytail and hopefully the first bobble will bulk out enough for the second not to be loose

InvisibleToEveryone · 10/09/2019 16:14

Primark did some bigger hair bands, they were perfect for my DD hair.
About twice the size of the normal bands.

Couldn't find them last time I was in though.

Pinkkahori · 10/09/2019 16:16

The little no-snag ones that look like elastic bands are good. Very grippy. They don't go round many times but they do hold the hair well.

HairyFloppins · 10/09/2019 16:17

My 17 year old dd swears by scrunchies. She finds them so much better.

ShirleyPhallus · 10/09/2019 16:18

Another vote for the spirally telephone line looking ones, they are the best ones I’ve ever used

ElizaPancakes · 10/09/2019 16:18

Immediately made me think of this Grin

I keep getting some ponytail thing advertised to me on Instagram (no idea why) hang on let me see if I can find it.....

I used to use 3 bobbles on dd’s very long, very thick hair. Split it into 2 ponytails one on top of the other and use the 3rd to go round both. Could get it higher that way. She uses the telephone cable ones (invisibobble etc) now.

NavyBlueHue · 10/09/2019 16:21

2 bobbles put in at the same time makes it tighter.

Poundland do fab bobbles that really stretch in black, brown or blonde colours too.

ceebeejeebies · 10/09/2019 16:23

I use 2 bobbles for my thick hair or I use those massive headband bobbles, they're made of the same elastic as a hair bobble but big enough to go around your head, folded in two

Wexone · 10/09/2019 16:29

As some one with very thick long hair, i swear by the Goody's ones in Boots use two at a time and wrap it three times. However i can not get ot really high as just too heavy. She has excellent hair for a bun aswell though looks really big and tease some hairs out to relax it. I don't even take my hair down to sleep :)

HJWT · 10/09/2019 16:34

I use a hair tie and then put a clip under the hair x

GiveMeStrength2day · 10/09/2019 16:47

When I do DD's thick hair into a high ponytail, I get her to tip her head upside down and kind of scoop/brush it into a ponytail. As this seems to include the front of her hair better I find this provides more of an anchor to stop the whole thing slipping down. I always use the snag-free bands which I can normally get three twists out of

Mrsjayy · 10/09/2019 16:49

Dd uses 2 bands she has her hair high for work she gets the thinner ones from Primark rather than the broader kind.

PullingMySocksUp · 10/09/2019 17:10

Ah we have telephone cord one. I’ll give that a go and try some of the other ideas.

Thank you everyone!
