What is wrong with me?

Disclaimer: I am going to make doc app tomorrow so no need to bang on about that, thank you!

I fainted yesterday. Felt woozy and head spinny, sat down then passed out. This is the second time in a few weeks, same thing happened at end of last term.

I am not underweight, fairly active, relatively busy with three boys and am self-employed. I'm not pregnant. I think I've had enough to eat and drink today.
Right now I feel vaguely nauseous at the top of my tummy and if I stand up and walk round too quickly it feels like the inside of my head is not quite keeping up. I'm waiting for DH to come home as not certain it's not going to happen again (DC fine, glued to a film and fed etc).
What the heck is wrong with me? This happened a lot with first pregnancy but as I'm not pregnant (have got period and DH has been snipped) should I be worried? any ideas?

They will probably check your iron levels, thyroid etc. You're maybe a little anaemic. Try drink lots and lots of water too.

Hope your alright! 🌸

Ear problems can cause your symptoms

Boots20 · 09/09/2019 22:30

Hows your stress levels? Any anxiety? I'd say a blood test will be the best way to an explanation

Vertigo or labyrinthitis?
Or maybe low blood pressure.
See your GP.

ToLiveInPeace · 09/09/2019 22:43

Just in case there's no obvious answer, I'll mention postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome, which basically means your blood pressure goes funny when you stand up. Doctors aren't great at recognising it.

Singlenotsingle · 09/09/2019 22:45

Get your blood pressure tested. It could be too high or too low.

InDubiousBattle · 10/09/2019 07:10

Anaemia, blood pressure, anxiety, vertigo. I had a weird vertigo type bg last year- also known as the year ds started school and we had every infection- I felt like I had morning sickness and dizziness for 3/4 days. Just getting worried when I found out loads of the other parents had the same.

ThereWere10 · 10/09/2019 08:57

That sounds like how I felt when I had labyrinthitis.

Deathraystare · 10/09/2019 15:46

Could be a lot of things really! Good that you are going to dr.

I tend to faint when I am feeling sick - when my mouth gets all funny and I am about to vom I pass out for a few secs. According to a dr it is because of my high blood pressure (it is really really high).

Usernamealreadyexists · 10/09/2019 16:07

Vertigo, ear issues, anemia.

Hey, thanks for replying. The receptionist suggested a phone consultation which (unsurprisingly) has resulted in an actual appointment with a real live person. My blood pressure is fine (surgery has a do it yourself machine). It's not inner ear probs as I've had that before. It's definitely a faint (recognised from multiple episodes in first pregnancy). I had a load of tests when it kept happening then and heart and posture thingy etc was all fine. I'm going with anaemia until properly diagnosed and have started necking spa tone. It's just a bit frustrating as I don't feel I can rush round at a million miles an hour sorting out everything like I normally do!

Update (for the remotely interested). ECG normal and blood apparently normal, although my haemoglobin is low but GP says I'm not anaemic (if anyone cares to explain that one I'd be grateful). So I'm being referred for a tilt test, as GP thinks is 'postural', I feel strangely insulted by this...

Aw don't be. There's a condition called
Postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome (POTS) which basically means you can get dizzy & faint by changing your position. Not that you slouch Smile

AudTheDeepMinded · 26/09/2019 21:04

Thanks iklboo. I think the GP did mentions PoTS.

Nearly a year later and I have an answer. Lower than average blood pressure.
A 24 hour test measured an average of 100/71mmHg. Been advised to drinks lots (water), eat a bit more salt, and take it easy when it's hot (chance would be a fine thing with three children to entertain). Impressed by the amount of prodding and poking that has gone into this conclusion and happy to hear my heart is perfect and doing a good job.

@AudTheDeepMinded how are you now ? I have been the same for so long :(

AudTheDeepMinded · 05/02/2023 11:56

Hi @Starr123, funnily enough I did a very impressive faint on Friday but I had been fasting for some blood tests which think contributed! Generally, things are better. I still get faint feelings sometimes, most often at the start of my period. I am much better at recognising when things are going down that route now and stop to sit down (or even lie down flat if necessary). I have also gone on HRT which I think may be helping. have you had investigations at all?
