So what is this grab bag chat all about then?

Police forces across the UK seem to be tweeting about how people should have a “grab bag” handy in case of an emergency evacuation. Something called 30days30ways. “Preparedness month”??

Naturally there are a lot of people on Twitter who appear fairly concerned about this. Asking why on Earth we are being advised of this all of a sudden. Just what are they expecting? I don’t usually get my knickers in a knot over stuff I read on twitter but I must admit it’s a little odd.

If nothing else, in the (likely) event that there is nothing behind this, I think it’s quite irresponsible to tweet such a thing with no explanation.

Mmm. Well.everyone will.have their own opinion but there are a lot of different sources.on emergency bag preparation in the UK most of which are not aimed at earthquakes and tsunamis. It depends if you can consider a scenario where you have more than 30 seconds but it would be helpful to have what you immediately would like to have to hand. Plus a checklist of shutdowns if you have time (part of emergency plan, turn off gas, electric etc) and even the ideally grab it items (if you really have more time) Which might sound daft but people's thinking can be affected by surprise/ adrenaline etc). If I was woken up by commotion of house nearby on fire and had time to exit.my house in a relatively ordered.fashion (as mine not on fire) I might be a bit confused and prefer to just grab my bag rather than think what I needed. Also if my phone wasn't working because by chance the emergency occurred.as I had run out of battery I wouldn't have a bloody clue of.any family numbers to call personally.

But you know, I guess the whole thing is really about what you see as personally relevant for your situation. If nothing else it's got more people to think about what an emergency might look like for them and what they might do to prepare. Just unfortunate as @Dyrne says that thisnone post got so jumped on.

Sorry! I have to learn to add paragraphs.....

People only had 15minutes to evacuate a couple of weeks ago when the dam was about to burst. A grab back would have eliminated some of the stress
