Is it my lifestyle or a minor illness?

I am exhausted. Constantly!
I have wondered out loud that maybe I have low iron or something but DH thinks its because I am just doing so much. Am I? We have 2 kids, 6 & 3 and take turns getting up every other day as youngest used to get up at 5 but now it is more like 6am. This is a typical week...
Mon - Get up, get kids ready, take youngest to nursery, go to work, go to the gym, home at 7.15pm, make tea, put kids to bed.
Tuesday - get up, get kids ready, take eldest to school, go to work, collect both kids (DH working lateish) on way home, cook tea, bath kids, hoover/put washing away, go back out for hobby at 7pm, home at 9.30pm.
Wed -Get up, get kids ready, take youngest to nursery, go to work, go to the gym, home at 7.15pm, make tea, put kids to bed.
Thurs- get up, get kids ready, take eldest to school, go to work, collect both kids (DH working lateish) on way home, cook tea, bath kids, hoover/put washing away, put kids to bed as DH out as hobby.
Fri - day off with 3 yr old. Take eldest to school. Take out youngest for a few hours, food shop, collect eldest from school, give them tea and get to the gym for 5. Home at 7.15 to cook more tea, kids to bed (depending on who is cooking).
WE also have the usual day to day stuff like putting on the washing, dishwasher and general tidying to do. Kids are in different places at pickup so takes longer and they eat their tea at childcare before I collect them so evening cooking is just for adults.
Saturday and sunday are a bit more chilled but we have swimming lessons on a saturday at 9am and spend 2 hours at the gym sunday morning. The rest of the weekend is spent doing whatever we fancy.
DH pulls his weight and helps with school runs, basic chores (not cleaning though because he will happily live in squalor!) tidying and doing bins etc.
I am shattered all the time and getting very grumpy with it. I turn 30 this year and feel like I should have more energy.
Is this normal with young kids and work or am I doing too much or ill?

Get a blood test for calcium, magnesium and vitamin d deficiency

MrsMozartMkII · 08/09/2019 20:13

Sounds fairly normal workload.

Get your Vit D level checked.

ChoporNot · 08/09/2019 20:17

Get your thyroid checked as well.

i feel exhausted just reading this!

How do you have the energy for the gym 4 times a week?! That's pretty hardcore when you work 4 days a week and have young dc.

hidinginthenightgarden · 08/09/2019 21:15

Simple - it’s only in the last 12 months that we started the gym. Prior to that we were pretty slobbish and I hated it. Kids just sat watching tv all night and I was bored!
I love going to the gym. Eases the fatigue a bit.
I’ll see if I can get some tests done. Thanks all.

What sort of tired? Tired as in sleepy tired-if you stopped you'd fall asleep? Or tired as in no energy but not sleepy? Or is it more a case of feeling sluggish all the time? Any aches/pains?

There. 3rd degree over. :)

flissity · 08/09/2019 21:35

A basic one... but do you drink enough water? (Or equivalent)

I have an active life too, similar to yours. If I don’t drink enough water or whatever (just not tea/coffee) I feel really lethargic and fuzzy head. I am rubbish at remembering to drink!

FleurNancy · 08/09/2019 21:55

Sounds normal to me. I went to the GP because I was tired all the time (v similar timetable to yours) and after gallons of blood taken (due to family history) the GP said the it

FleurNancy · 08/09/2019 21:56

Argh, pressed wrong button! The GP said it was basically just having 3 kids which was making me tired! Brilliant!!

Wehttam · 08/09/2019 21:59

Wow I was knackered before I’d finished reading all that. You poor thing, get some tests done. Also you might want to look into how deep your sleep is and if it’s quality sleep.

If you have heavy periods it could be iron deficiency. Defo get bloods done. Get everything checked.
In Scotland they don’t check our vitamin d level as it’s accepted as fact we will be deficient. Great!
