I've had plenty of hang overs in my late teens, so I know what that is like .

Last year I was told by a doctor i have IBS ( going off symptoms I had been having for almost 12 years ) .

During the last 2 years whenever I've consumed an alcoholic drink I feel nauseous and when i have a night out I'm left laying in bed clutching my tummy feeling very sick and in pain and farting like a trooper .

I am exactly the same! Currently sat up in bed feeling horrendous after a glass of wine and a double gin last night. I've tried to pinpoint what alcohol it is but to no avail, sometimes I'm absolutely fine and then other nights I'm like this but there is no common theme! I feel absolutely fine when out though it's a soon as I get into bed I feel horrendous.

I gave up all alcohol several years ago for the same reasons.

The hardest part was all the people who would say' Just the one won't hurt you', err yes, it will.

I used to love wine and tried it last Christmas thinking I might have got over the problem. Nope, it was a bad mistake and I felt awful for the next two days.

The pain isn't worth it for very little gain. I have learned you can enjoy yourself and be just as happy without. (Although I still long to be able to drink sometimes.)

For me, booze is like a freight train passing through me. I used to call it ' wine splatz' - if I ever needed a laxative, a couple of glasses of vino of any kind would get me exploding the next morning...

So water with meals and long drinks were the order of the day! A vodka and tonic - after the initial drink, friends would then buy me tonics all night to add to my glass.

It became more than just my innards. About 20 years ago, the mild alcohol facial flush - even on only one unit - started to go blotchy down my neck, across my chest and back and down my arms. I gave up booze there and then!

I'm getting to the point where I think I'm going to have to give up but I'm only 21 and can't bear the thought of sober nights out Shock

I have got up this morning feeling similar after one small glass of (lovely) red last night. I’ll be sad to pass up all those future lovely glasses but being up all night with the symptoms really isn’t a trade off I’m willing to have. Boo!

I went out Friday, had three doubles. Yesterday was a write off. I didn't sleep well and had a headache all day. In the past I'd get hangovers too but it would take a lot more than 3 doubles.

I don't go out often and when I do I always lose the next day.
My weekends are so busy catching up anyway that I can't afford to lose a day.

I haven't touched alcohol for 27 years when I started having exactly the same symptoms.
Unfortunately you will find that so many things are considered to be enhanced by the addition of booze! Chocolate, ice cream, desserts, sauces, you name it!
I always have to check now as I have had a few nasty experiences in restaurants. I know it's an intolerance and not a life threatening allergy but it will make me ill enough to have to spend the next day out of act with the symptoms of a really bad hangover.

You're just going to have to go cold turkey I'm afraid and then spend the rest of your life putting up with incredulous faces when you tell people you're teetotal Hmm

On the plus side you will gain a whole new perspective on the culture of drinking and how poorly non drinkers are catered for!
