How to get over food poisoning fast?

POSSIBLE GASTRIC TMI:

I obviously ate something bad yesterday as have now had vomiting and watery dia .... since 4am.

I am leaving on a 3hr flight tomorrow and need to set up a conference starting Monday. Only I can do this.

Presently I feel so ill that I can only lay flat in bed, getting up only to go next door to bathroom.

I'm drinking rehydration salts, but can't keep them down. I can't even think about packing or preparing. Is there anything I can do to feel better?

Thanks for reading.

Charcoal capsules or biscuits are very good if there's someone who can get them for you?

Soola · 07/09/2019 12:11

Pepto Bismol

Silvercatowner · 07/09/2019 12:13

No, you need to let it take its course. Unless it clears up very quickly (which it might if it is food poisoning) then you won't be fit to fly tomorrow. If it is a virus and not food poisoning then, for the sake of your fellow passengers, you absolutely must not fly. No-one is indispensible and if anyone is then it is bad planning on their managers part.

Thank you @vampirethriller and @Soola

I have Gaviscon - is that similar to Pepto Bismal?

@Silvercatowner : thanks for the advice. Apart from seeing how long it lasts, are the symptoms different?

What did you eat that could have been dodgy? Usually these things do pass in 24hrs, occasionally 48hrs (for me anyway) so fingers crossed you'll be okay.

Nextphonewontbesamsung · 07/09/2019 12:24

Why are you so certain it's food poisoning? It's more likely to be a virus, in which case you will still be infectious and spreading your bug around the whole plane by tomorrow Sad.

alldressedupinblue · 07/09/2019 12:37

I promise not to travel if I'm still poorly.

I don't know if it's food poisoning or a virus. I asked upthread if the symptoms are different?

Unless you have tests I think it is impossible to tell. There are so many different virusses and food poisoning bugs. Unless you ate actual raw chicken (or similar....).

18 months in India..

You cannot get over it but with Imodium you can postpone it a bit. However, it must come out either now or later SmileGrin

I think it was a prepackaged chicken sandwich I had on the train yesterday.....

You cannot travel tomorrow OP

Even if it is food poisoning you can still spread food poisoning germs. You could have caught noro from food as well which is obviously very contagious

If you take your D&V germs on the flight, you will give it to someone, and that's simply not fair. You might ruin their holiday or if They are elderly/immunocompromised make them very ill. Really selfish.

alldressedupinblue · 07/09/2019 14:46

@BlueCornsihPixie , if you read up, you'll see that I have acknowledged that I can't travel tomorrow.

Thank you to everyone- I feel so ill that I'm sure I can't be better by tomorrow.

No you've said if your still poorly op

Even if you feel better you cannot travel tomorrow, not if you have had d&v today
