Has anyone used a decluttering service?

My house is in a really bad way and as well as cluttered it's disorganised. I have a severe mental illness and am teetering on the edge of another breakdown. I'm shortly being moved by the police/women's aid due to abuse (we don't live together but he knows where I live) and I'm just so overwhelmed I don't know where to start.

I considered it but it was £30per hour. Instead I hired a personal assistant at £8 an hour

Daisy how did you find them? Through an agency?

I am a one of those lady who comes in and declutters and organise your home!! I have worked with all sorts of people some with full blown hoarding disorder (can’t get rid of anything including there everyday household rubbish) to people who just in a terrible mess and can’t see how to start and get out of the mess. I work with my friend we have been doing this for about seven years. We always go to see a client before we start a job as they have to trust us and we will only work with someone who is ready to change. I’m not going to lie it can be a very hard job physically but also mentally both for us and for the client. Some clients want to do a room at a time over a few weeks for even months, were as some just want us in every day till there whole house is done. Only advise I would give you is make sure you are ready to change and that you are Willing to get rid of some of your stuff!! Sometimes its other family members who are making them get us in this never works as they need to want to change!! its like being a alcoholic you need to want to change the way you live not other people wanting you to change.

I've used a lady that's based in South London. She was amazing, lovely, kind and compassionate whilst being startlingly efficient and motivating me to crack on and get things sorted. She does max four hours on a day because it is quite intense, but I achieved more in four hours with her than I would have done in a month on my own

That does really sound as if you could use some help. Do you have a time frame for moving?

SadVillageGirl · 07/09/2019 09:11

I don't know when I'm going to move but I'm priority as it's domestic abuse. It could be a few weeks or a few months but I have to be ready to leave. I've lived here for 15 years and my children have now left home. To the lady that says I have to be ready to change I'm afraid I have to disagree - on top of mental illness I also have a brain injury which means for the last 4 years I've been mentally and physically drained even thinking about the basic things in life. Its circumstance that led to this. Thank you everybody.

Could you not ask family and friends to come in and help you!! You sound like you have had a horrible few years I’m sure your friends and family will rally round to help you organise your belongings ready for a move. If the house has only been neglected in the last few years then hopefully it won’t be such a big job as it only your things that need to be sorted out and ready to move. If you can’t get any family or friends to help then look online for a organiser and declutter in you area. Good luck and hopefully you will be much happier and sorted soon.
