Do you think this will count as exceptional circumstances?

Probably being slightly optimistic but really hoping dc will be signed off school for a week in mid October (week before half term). It’s the first time dh has had a fortnight off for 18 years. He works in USA for a US company so holiday allowance is pitiful. We currently only see him for 3 days a fortnight. We’re going to stay with him in USA and have a proper holiday with him.

I feel cheeky asking if it could be considered exceptional circumstances as generally only forces kids seem to be allowed for stuff like that. I’m only asking as dc1 has had 100% attendance awards every year and really wants to get another one this year Grin. Not the best reason really!

I doubt they'd take it as exceptional circumstances unfortunately.

My dd has never had an attendance certificate, and possible won't for a long time. She's under consultant care so misses register taking either on the morning or afternoon at least once a year and it counts against her. We've given up trying to get her in at all and she gets a day off now. Her attendance otherwise is 100% and she's either above or close to it.

Are you england, scotland, wales, n.I? In scotland our headteacher would send back the non authorisation letter with a note to say have a great time.

100% attendance forever is surely not realistic? Sick bugs etc.

Just say he has sickness and diarrhoea and you don't need a docs note for a week off. Unless he cant keep it quiet Grin.
1 week unauthorised at that age doesn't mean anything anyway (speaking as a teacher).

We asked for a week off for 12 year old dd. We have relatives visiting from Australia that we only see for a week every other year. Never a problem at junior school who always said family time was important and have a lovely week.
This the first time its cropped up with senior school. We've been refused as not exceptional. She's in top sets, 100% attendance last year, represents school at sport and music.

Enjoy your two weeks, pay the fine which you're bound to get.

It wouldn’t be authorised at our school but wouldn’t be fined.
DD was off for 2 days last year (authorised, as it was an illness) but she didn’t get a 100% attendance award as she didn’t have 100% attendance! Even when an absence (for any reason) is authorised, it still counts as an absence.
