And if so, any tips?

My casserole dish just broke and I was planning on a beef stew for dinner.
Can anyone help? Please? Sad

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stew

This is all I can find, but I swear I read this in a history book about how humans learned to stew.

Can't comment on the Japanese stewing or when stews hit Ireland, but I think it was stone age times.......... Maybe. Wish I could find that old history book.

I’m doing Irish stew today, on the hob obviously as that’s the only way to do it Smile

Deadringer · 06/09/2019 16:38

But is it proper irish stew Missy with lamb?Wink

Slow but stir occasionally to prevent too much sticking. Before ovens were invented, I guess all meat and veg mixtures were cooked in a pot on an open fire. Add some red wine vinegar or similar to speed up tenderising (not too much obvs)

@Deadringer An Irish stew is made with lamb.......

Deadringer · 06/09/2019 19:50

I know that 1FineDane, but most Irish people I know make it with beef, me included.
