To feel so stuck - work related

I am really struggling with work atm. My manager seems to be going out of his way to make my time there pretty much unbearable. I really dont know why as I know I am brilliant at my job and there are no actual reasons he can give for treating me so badly.

I have been applying for so so many jobs the past two weeks (which I understand is not a long time at all) but I have received no positive responses at all.

I really need to leave my current role asap as I am becoming increasingly concerned with my mental health and do not know how much longer I can take this.

Not really sure why I am posting tbh, think it has just helped writing the whole sorry mess down Sad

Can you expand on how he is making your life unbearable?

Managers usually do this for two reasons. Either you are not performing to the right level or you are perceived as a threat to them.

Request a meeting, take a notebook, and ask your manager to give you some pointers on how to improve your performance. If this request is denied, or doesn't happen then you know it's because you are perceived as a threat.

Keep looking for something else, life is too short to be unhappy at work x

Tink1990 · 06/09/2019 09:28

Sorry, yes. Constantly asking me what I am doing, making snide remarks to his many many 'pals' in the office and generally being an arse tbh. I also had my review 2 weeks ago whereby I had achieved the goals we had agreed on and I was in there 15 mins, 2 of which were used to say "yep, you did that and that and that" and the rest of the time talking about others in the team and where I should be telling them what to do etc. Just generally demotivating and making me unhappy to be there. I dont want to work somewhere that I am unhappy but finding a new job is hard.

Thanks ever so much for your response, as I said I understand theres not much anyone can really advise and not sure why I posted but its nice to know someone somewhere has read it, so thank you Smile

Im a firm believer that sometimes it's just as much about personality dynamics as your ability to do the job. If he is saying needs you to direct your staff more often, it's this something you lack confidence on?

Tink1990 · 07/09/2019 20:12

The thing is, I'm no more senior than the people he is telling me to direct! It just doesnt make sense. He is our manager, we are just the team.
