Handhold needed DH colonoscopy and anemia

DH went to the docs the day before yesterday as he’d noticed a lump by his belly button. We were thinking it would be a hernia.
Doctor had a feel and said cos they couldn’t “push it back” it was unlikely to be a hernia and decided to send him for a colonoscopy (within 2 weeks) They also took his bloods.
DH took a poo sample in yesterday and got the results of his blood - anemia level of 5 and high potassium. The doctor said he could be bleeding somewhere.
He’s had no pain and isn’t tired, generally he’s fit and well. He did have an ultrasound on his undercarriage a couple of months ago as he was a bit gassy after greasy food but it all came back all clear.

I am massively panicking, his mum had bowel cancer at 55, he is 38.

Help!

Big handhold for you here OP Flowers My DDad has bowel cancer, if it is any comfort at all I would say by the time he was diagnosed he was very thin and tired and ill. If your DP is still fit then whatever the results will be that is a good sign x

Thank you @ongranaryplease

His mum survived it and lived another 20 years. I’m so cross because I didn’t realise it can be hereditary, we always assumed she got it cos she smoked like a chimney and ate too much bacon.

Yes my DF is still here, he has stage 4 but they’re managing to keep on top of it 5 years on. I think he’s vaguely mentioned that I will have to have a colonoscopy in my 40s as it can be hereditary but I might have made this up?

Best wishes x

Some friends of mine had exactly this problem last Christmas/New Year. In fact his anaemia had got so bad he actually collapsed.
He knew he had a hernia, but it wasn't bad enough to operate on, but apparently it just sort of bleeds very lightly all the time, and eventually he became more and more anaemic.

He was thoroughly checked out, camera inserted from both ends poor chap, no sign of any cancer at all, he just has to manage his condition and keep up with the iron intake, but it was a hugely worrying time for them both.

So, how did it go?
