How healthy was my toddlers day

Hello,

Just wondered if this would be classed as a healthy day of food or not for a 2 year old. He's gone off eating lots of things and I don't eat very well myself so not sure if it's nutritional or not

Breakfast - strawberries, raspberries. Bowl of malt wheats and whole milk.

Lunch - 3 cream crackers with cream cheese, ham and cucumber sticks

Tea - cod fillet, boiled sweet potato and carrots

(A couple biscuits as a snack obviously not healthy)

sounds fine to me.
Some protein, two lots of calcium, plenty of fruit and veg, and carbs at every meal.

Crunchymum · 05/09/2019 18:18

Oh goody another competitive eating thread.

FWIW carrots are a sweet veg, so I wouldn't serve with sweet potato

meepmoop · 05/09/2019 18:50

Competitive eating thread? It was a genuine question. Lots of times people aren't aware of different things regarding nutrition and food.

For example I didn't think about carrots being a sweet veg with sweet potato.

OP what are you worried about?

You could get your son to eat more green veg but good luck finding the one/two particular green veg he will eat.

EmmaJR1 · 05/09/2019 20:47

Well my 2 year old ate..

A waffle with Nutella
A digestive biscuit
Peanut butter on seeded toast
4 alphabites
A sausage
4 chips
1 mouthful of yoghurt

So when you say your child has gone off a few things you don't know how lucky you are if he's eating the list of foods you gave!

My son literally screams and throws himself to the floor if I try to assertively make him try some foods. And even things he liked last week are now off the menu.

I now have to put food in front of him and pray he eats SOMETHING!

redchocolatebutton · 05/09/2019 20:50

how much exercise did he have? at least one hour outside?
that's just as important for health as eating fruit and veg.

BonnyE · 05/09/2019 20:53

@EmmaJR1 thank you that made me smile and feel a whole lot better 😂

NotYourHolidayDick · 05/09/2019 20:53

My dd had an ice lolly for breakfast, a cheese wrap, raspberries and jammie dodgers for lunch, and 2 bites of broccoli and a bag of crisps for tea.

I'd be over the fucking moon if she ate what you've listed.

BonnyE · 05/09/2019 20:55

Two bites of broccoli - result!!

BonnyE · 05/09/2019 20:57

Ps in all seriousness OP, yes that looks good to me I'd consider it a massive success if DD ate that well in a day.
One tip I was given was look at diet over a week or even month as toddlers have on and off days when it comes to food. Hope this helps

Creatureofthenight · 05/09/2019 20:59

OP that seems pretty healthy to me! But I have read that it’s better to consider a toddler’s intake across a week rather than daily as they can vary from day to day so much.

Mylittlepony374 · 05/09/2019 21:01

My 2 year old would never eat as well as yours. Today she had 2 teaspoons of porridge, an innocent fruit smoothie (thank fuck something that resembles healthy), 3 teaspoons spaghetti hoops, 4 dry crackers, an ice lolly and an oaty bar. And she ran around ALL day outside so no idea where her energy came from for that.

I think your toddler ate brilliantly.

meepmoop · 05/09/2019 21:05

Thanks everyone, I didn't intend for it to seem like a Humble brag. His eating is generally hit and miss, we had a stage of bananas and meat only.

I made the mistake of following 'mummies' on Instagram and there food always looks so vibrant and fancy

@BonnyE you are welcome! He's a right PITA at the moment so I smile insanely a lot at the moment!

Leftielefterson · 05/09/2019 21:11

Sounds great to me OP!

BonnyE · 05/09/2019 21:33

Oh @meepmoop don't look at Instagram. Nothing wrong with some cream cheese and crackers...

Ohmygod123 · 06/09/2019 12:09

Instagram posts are lies I wouldn't compare your toddlers food to the lavish colour plates of others, just do yourself a favour and unfollow them!

Molars often come through in toddler years so just go with what your little one wants and don't worry too much

Dontgiveamonkeys1350 · 06/09/2019 13:00

Hell.... some days of you can get them to eat call it a win Grin

soundsystem · 06/09/2019 13:42

Looks healthy to me! My 2.5 year old would need more carbs than that or he'd get hangry, so maybe a bagel and cream cheese/avocado on toast after the breakfast and probably something else similar for supper.

Stapelberg · 06/09/2019 20:42

My 6 year old told the social worker (who came to visit a foster child in my care), in reply to her question about what he had for breakfast, that he's not hungry because he had 2 ants for breakfast!!
True story and shockingly true!! 🤣 🤣 🤣
