Hi all, posting here for traffic.

I have come into some unexpected money and I want to buy a new iPhone. I would like one of those big ones with the large screen, lots of storage.

I am rubbish with these things and when I phone up they bamboozle me, can you suggest a handset?

Thanks.

Blossom

We had a little money when I had mine and intended to buy it outright. When we did the sums however it actually worked out cheaper to get the phone on contact, but I suppose that will depend on how much you use it.

@BizzzzyBee You can still just enter your pin if you don’t want to pick it up, you don’t have to use facial recognition every time.

The wireless charging on the iPhones is nothing to write home about at the moment, let’s be honest. However the camera difference between the 7 and the 8 is a huge jump. If you want good photos, it’s worth spending more to get the newer iPhones. Basically, that’s where they really upgraded their devices.

I had the 8+ and sold to my friend as he needed a new one, so I got the XS MAX
I hated it at first as it's very different the the 8. Bit got used to it and like it now. Am on my 5th iPhone as well. Never had an issue with them.

So much harder than just pressing your finger on it though. My phone lies on the table and opens with one click. DH has to either pick his up or input a six digit pin.

drsausage · 05/09/2019 03:48

The 8 plus has a home button. Mine does!

Doh - you're right. DH got an XS, not an 8.

I'd advise you to wait until they announce the new one. If you can hold out a couple of months longer than prices will drop even more. Have a look at the iPhone x for example, released a couple of years ago, very very decent and I'm sure you can pick it up around the £30/month mark. Thats what I'm hoping to do.

Will you still need a contract? Don't forget to factor that in and as someone previously said it might work out cheaper in the long run. You might end up spending 1k plus then another 20/30 on line rental whick will add up after 24 months.

Let us know what you decide!

Grin

Why not spend the money saved on another treat then. You could have a holiday as well as a shiny new phone, instead of just an iphone.

Iamblossom · 05/09/2019 13:52

I will spend it on the bill I am about to be presented with by the garage for the body work needed on my car. Confused

I have the XR and it's great.

I'd say go for the latest model that you can as they stay current for longer. I usually get 2.5-3years from my iPhones as once I get one it serves its purpose for ages.

I buy the phone outright and pay son only

I bought my current XR from music magpie in 'pristine' condition when eBay has an extra 15 per cent off. I paid £520 and it's been ok so far.

EmAreSea · 05/09/2019 14:29

I’ve got an XR and it is good, although FaceID is a pain in the arse. Much preferred TouchID and the home button.
