Next shoes v Clarks

Hi

Does anyone know if Next shoe sizes are similar/the same as Clark’s? I have always bought my daughter Clark’s but wasn’t inspired by much and wondered about trying Next but she has quite wide feet. Thanks.

I'm the same size in both.

I found startrite great for dd's wise feet, and hush puppies, because they come with the insoles, if that helps.

Yes Next send Clarks are the same size. With the exception of one pair which were more like pumps I've found Next leather school shoes to be consistently better quality than Clarks.

SteveHarringtonsHair · 05/09/2019 08:29

I bought DS Next school shoes and found their quality to be terrible.
Within a couple of weeks DS had skinned the top layer of leather of toes off each shoe despite being very light on his feet and having never had it happen with Clark’s.

M&S shoes tend to be decent quality, much more so than Clarks for girls.

My dd is a H fitting according to Clarks. I've found that some styles of Next shoes are fine for her (t-bar/sandals/boots) but others like trainers or Mary Jane style are far too narrow.

BlackInk · 05/09/2019 10:34

My 7yo DD has reeeeaaallly narrow feet, and Next shoes are the only high street ones that ever fit her. I would say that Next sizes tend to be smaller in length than Clarks equivalent too. M&S school shoes seem especially wide, in fact I think they do different widths...

orangeshoebox · 05/09/2019 10:38

try them on.
sizes and fits vary.
dc shoe size vary depending on style. the only way to buy well fitting shoes is to try them on.
don't buy shoes online.

I always bought DD clarks shoes, as an adult she now has perfect feet. I put it down to wearing well fitting shoes as she was growing. They were expensive but worth it, she never had a blister or a corn. I remember seeing one of her friends feet when she was younger and she had claw toes and calluses from ill fitting "fashion" shoes

WilburIsSomePig · 05/09/2019 10:55

Yes they are v similar in size. However, I don't think the quality is great. I bought Next for both DS and DD a couple of years ago, never again. I had to replace both just after Christmas because they were falling apart.

Kanga83 · 05/09/2019 10:57

Next and M&S are far better quality in my opinion. I always buy them there. M&S are a bit wider than Next, but my girl finds them comfy, the next fit over them. She's narrow so the narrow shoes are great for her. Always buy my boys in next too.

Kanga83 · 05/09/2019 10:58

Should add- if you buy next, buy the patent ones. They don't scuff at all.

Comefromaway · 05/09/2019 11:01

Next are too narrow for my dd and too wide for my ds. They are fine if your child is an average width.

Tecza · 05/09/2019 11:25

Hi @Tulipsandpinkroses
My daughter has the same size in Next and Clarks. When she was in PS I'd regularly bought from Clarks, as their soles were more durable. However, once she's moved to HS, the style range is just so much better in Next. So for the last 3 years I've been buying from Next, but always choosing leather and really chunky soles. They lasted for as long as she needed them (only changed when she'd grown in size - usually one size per year ;)) and never had any quality problems.

Tulipsandpinkroses · 05/09/2019 12:23

Thank you everyone. I went to Next and I found some boots for her which fitted well but the trainers and every other style shoe that we tried on wasn’t any good for her. It was for canvas type shoes/trainers but I had also ordered some Geox ones from John Lewis which we collected on the way back and they definitely were more money but seem to fit far better and seem more comfortable. Thanks for all your help!

Prices for Next and Clark’s shoes are near enough the same but the quality is definitely very different!! Spent almost £50 on lace up brogues from Next for my daughter for school last year and with in 2 weeks they were badly scuffed. Clark’s last the whole school year pretty much.
