Skirting Board - Posting here for traffic

I have original Victorian skirting board along two walls in my lounge.

I've tried to get skirting to match it for the other two walls but am failing miserably.

The company that does the same shape/profile have messed me about and now I'm not due for it to be delivered til next week. That's if it turns up, which it hasn't the last couple of times.

I'm tempted to cancel them and order new for the whole room. This means getting the original stuff off BUT I've had all the walls plastered.

Will getting the old stuff off the newly plastered walls damage the plaster? How badly? If I buy skirting which is a bit taller than the original stuff will this cover any damage?

It might chip the plaster, depends how carefully it's removed. But, if your skirting isn't too deep now, you could order slightly deeper skirting to cover any issues?

Do you mean deep as in how far out it comes from the wall? What difference would that make? Sorry for being tick.

I'd definitely get taller stuff (meaning how high up the wall it comes) to cover any chips.

Have you tried

Or a good local joiner? Mine made 18" deep skirting to match the originals and he says it's not hard to do.

I'd match the existing skirting if you can. You could end up with a much bigger job otherwise and your room proportions might end up being a bit 'off' if you use a modern style.

@Kit30 Seriously, I've looked at every skirting shop there is!

Our local joiner is ready and waiting to fit skirting but hasn't got time to make it from scratch now (decorator coming in a few wks). I hope he'd have time to fit all new - 4 walls rather than 2 but I'd need to talk to him.

I absolutely wouldn't use a modern style for the new skirting and it wouldn't be too much bigger than the original stuff so wouldn't look out of place.

Deep as in height from floor to the top of the board. So if you know there's a risk of damage to the bottom edge of plaster you get a boss taller to just cover it rather than trying to do running repairs.

Bound4DaReload · 04/09/2019 17:45

Ah, yes, that's what I meant by height/tall Grin

Yeah that was my plan - to get it taller so repairs should be minimal. Ugh, just don't know what to do!

We've replaced all the skirting in the house ourselves. I hate that I know as much about it as I do 😂
