I have an interview next week for a job I really want. I am so nervous. I normally do okay at interviews but this is different because all the jobs I have done are generic care jobs, and this is much more of a niche role.

Please give me your best interview techniques. I have been studying the job description and the company website all afternoon. It's not until next Thursday so I have time but I am feeling so snxoous already.

This is my favourite list of interview tips: link

See that's where I go wrong. I never remember the kitkat or fanta!!!

carlywurly · 05/09/2019 18:40

Today's interviewee asked about the best and worst parts of working where we do, the history of the position and something else I forget. So much better.

As an interviewer I really like being asked questions. It also baffles me that people might accept a job without being bothered enough about it to find out as much as they can first.

My tips:

If you're nervous tell them. It makes you human and likeable.

Be passionate about the field the job is in. Don't try and be super professional but let your passion show.

Remember why you're great for the role and channel positivity.

Be honest. If you need time to think about an answer then say so.

So I prepped lots of questions off the back of this thread-and didn't end up using any of them! It was very informal and we ended up in more of a conversation than an interview (in fact the first thing she said to me was that it wasn't an interview, just a chance to meet) so the questions just flowed on what what she said rather than a distinct section of the interview iykwim. She seemed happy so hopefully it will be good news!

Good luck whiter

If you dont have an answer to a question, ask to come back to it later and hope they forget (twice this has happened to me Grin )

I interviewed 6 people last month, some of my observations...
Practice speaking any answers to possible questions out loud. Sometimes hearing things out loud makes it easier to formulate answers without sounding like a sound bite!

Don’t wear trainers to your interview.

Don’t say “like” lots.

Engage, but don’t talk too much because of nerves! If you answered the question, don’t then re-answer it another 5 times.

Be prepared for questions like “can you give us an example of something you have changed recently in your line of work, and why?” Reflection on your work is always good to see.

Don’t get the interviewer’s name wrong...

Don’t sit there slating your last employer, you’ll only sound bitter and a bit of a trouble-maker... ha ha!

Good luck!

Thanks @TravellingSpoon good luck to you too. I’m sure you’ll be back soon to tell is how you smashed it!

Prepare prepare prepare. I tend to take a note book in with me with any questions I have listed - if you take one out when they ask you if you have any questions it certainly makes them sit up.

Do your research into the company/organisation so you can talk with knowledge.

And if you feel nervous just remember, you are interviewing them as much as vice-versa. So you need to feel happy with their responses. It isn't just you under the spotlight.

Also, prepare answers for some of the more common questions (what are your strengths / weaknesses. Where do you see yourself in 5 years. What can you bring to the organisation)

My interview has been moved to next Monday 😢. More time to prepare but more time to be anxious about it.

Good luck Travelling!

I came on here because I've got an interview tomorrow. I've run my own business, hired people and fired people, and I'm really nervous!

The interview process is so much more thorough than anything I've done before, including having to give a presentation on a topic to be revealed tomorrow... It's a PA role 😳

whitershadeofpale · 16/09/2019 21:50

Good luck @DinosApple I think all interview processes are getting harder and harder but I’m sure you’ll be fine Smile

Wish I read this last week, had an interview on Thursday and still waiting to hear. But was told mid week so I'm being impatient. May have fluffed it though didn't go as prepared as I could have done. Made so many notes beforehand, didn't take notebook on the day Confused
