Visiting a farm when pregnant

DD invited to a birthday party at a local farm. The type where you handle lots of animals. I'm currently pregnant and have read it's not safe to handle farm animals. Does anyone know if this is correct?
Obviously DD will go but will have to find someone else to take her if I can't.

I think it’s fine as long as you wash your hands before you touch your face and mouth

Pregnant women work on farms all the time. The one thing I know they can’t do, is labouring sheep as that can cause miscarriage (if I remember correctly)

You can't deal with labouring sheep (alpacas, llamas etc) or newborn animals but as long as you wash your hands anything else is fine

I live and work in a farm (veg commerially) and some sheep, pigs goats and poultry. Soubriquet is right the only issue is lambing (and re entry after a field has been treated which on a public farm would have signs up advising no entry for anyone pregnant or lactating). Just sensible hand hygiene after handling anything and enjoy

Yep we have a farm and I couldn't avoid it while pregnant. Don't go near labouring sheep or goats and avoid the afterbirth and you'll be fine. As always wash your hands before you eat etc. but go and have fun.

Ah! Glad I remembered something right Grin

It's fine. Take some antibac and wash your hands after touching sheep

Thanks everyone will make sure I wash my hands well after handling the animals. Definitely don't plan to go near any labouring sheep Grin
