Golden Wedding Anniversary lunch in London?

NorthernGravy · 03/09/2019 22:32

It’s my mum and dad’s 50th wedding anniversary and we are going to London with them and family. There will be 7 adults and 3 kids. We wanted to do something special, thinking a really good 3/4 course lunch menu with a few bottles of good wine at a good restaurant. Thinking up to £80-90 a head (including booze) for the adults.

Where would you go? I’ve been to Murano and la Gavroche before but don’t know where else is consistently good these days and special for a big anniversary.

Any dietary requirements (vegetarians etc)? Any food your parents particular like? Would you like Central London?

NorthernGravy · 03/09/2019 22:49

Central London. 2 vegetarians. Kids good with food as long as you tell them to hold the garnishes! Parents have been to L’Enclume, Gilpin Spice and places like that really. Like modern British/ French but open to lots.

What about Le Caprice?

Oxo Tower?

Heston Dinner. The kids will love the ice cream cart thing

The Savoy Grill (Gordon Ramsey) is nice and central. Good children’s menu as well.

The Grill at the Dorchester.

INeedToThrowItAllOut · 04/09/2019 00:40

Bob Bob Ricard is always fun

NorthernGravy · 04/09/2019 07:07

Some good suggestions- will have to get ringing and see who can fit us in. We’ve been to Le Caprice a few times and so fancy somewhere different. Wouldn’t go to the Dorchester due to their owners stance on gay rights (or lack of them).

A consideration I find now for my parents and older is comfortable chairs and a dry enough acoustic that they can hear the conversation comfortably. If you're going somewhere fancy and with tablecloths that may not be an issue...

CrispMornings · 04/09/2019 07:46

I'd say The Ivy but doubt it will be in budget.

Sunshinelollipops1 · 04/09/2019 07:55

@CrispMornings agreed - £80-£90 for 3/4 courses with alcohol in London doesn’t go far. There is the Ivy Market Grill in Covent Garden which is the same change, but more low key and might be within budget (it’s the alcohol which always pushes the bill up).

Sunshinelollipops1 · 04/09/2019 07:55

Chain not change

NorthernGravy · 04/09/2019 20:24

I acknowledge that ordering a la Carte is going to be tough in budget, but I’ve seen that all the Jason Atherton restaurants, Murano and a few others all have set lunch menus below £40 for 3 courses leaving £50 for wine.

Lots of places have great set lunches, we've eaten in a few celebrity chef places for under £150 for 2 including (too much) wine

NorthernGravy · 04/09/2019 20:33

@stucknoue where have your favourites been?

What about The Goring? V comfortable lounge and with a nice private room that seats up to about 20.

xyzandabc · 04/09/2019 20:37

Rules restaurant near covent garden would fit your bill. We had a private dining room for FIL 70th birthday and it was just amazing. Every little detail taken care of and superb food. Beautiful inside and good for a special meal.

MrsSchadenfreude · 04/09/2019 20:38

Go for one of the big hotels. Claridges is lovely, as is the Rosewood in Holborn. Also love the Goring but unlikely to be in budget.

NorthernGravy · 04/09/2019 20:49

@mrsschaudenfroid I hadn’t thought of claridges. The restaurant has been taken over by the chef from Eleven Madison Park in NYC. We had an amazing dinner there a few years ago but it was definitely very over budget now that we have kids!

The Ledbury was one of my favourites!

needmorespace · 04/09/2019 21:07

you could try the ritz as well - sometimes able to get a deal like thiswww.bookatable.co.uk/the-ritz-restaurant-london-green-park-piccadilly-st-jamess-london
and they def do vegetarian on the same deal
only thing is drinks are expensive

EnriqueTheRingBearingLizard · 04/09/2019 21:13

Some of the places suggested don't really cater for vegetarians. It also depends if you're prioritising quality of food or location?

www.elystanstreet.com/menus/?doing_wp_cron=1567626842.9755039215087890625000#dinner

The Sunday lunch menu looks lovely and caters for vegetarians. It's £50 per head and coffee's £7 including truffles, but of course you add 12½% usually and that applies to wine too, so it shoots up above the headline cost pretty quickly.

Good food but unassuming location

StoatofDisarray · 04/09/2019 21:19

Private dining at the Delaunay. They have a room that takes 10 people and I don't think it costs anything extra to book it.

OhTheRoses · 05/09/2019 04:29

Just a thought, but with children and elderly parents in the mix and a £90 cap, might San Lorenzo work?
