How long do you keep producing breastmilk?

I stopped pumping nearly 2.5 years ago. Yesterday I was getting undressed and realised my bra smelt weirdly of milk and I checked - I can still produce a tiny bit. Is this normal?

I’ve just had the shortest period of my life (3 days, normally at least 7). I’m going to do a pregnancy test even though I’m less likely than Mary herself to be pregnant (I would have to be at least 4 months, and I’ve had very heavy periods of normal length every month), I just want to rule it out as I’ve been very fatigued and weak the last few days. Doesn’t make sense but I will check that.

Anyone else have this?

I’m 37, if that’s relevant. Periods still regular (24-27 day cycles).

Are you on any mediction? Some meds can cause lactation as a side-effect. You ought to consider seeing your GP about the fatigue if it carries on as you may be deficient in iron or something.

Please get yourself checked out. It's possible just hormonal but, (and I dont want to concern you), some MOSTLY BENIGN pituitary gland tumors can cause prolactin production, which is the hormone that triggers lactation.

I dried up within a week of stopping BF DD but I'd never had loads in the first place (enough but never leaked).

I can still squeeze a bit out, 12 months after stopping breastfeeding. I stopped when dd was 18.5 months old, if that makes any difference!

Thanks all. I have an ME diagnosis but suspect a thyroid issue (very long story, tests in normal range but all the symptoms of hypothyroidism).

Just googled it and apparently this is yet another symptom of hypothyroidism. Awesome.

Have a GP appointment for week after next so will bring it up then and see if they will run more blood tests.

Annoyingly I stopped pumping due to very low supply! It’s not huge amounts but if I apply pressure I get drops quite quickly. Must be leaking some as I smelt it on my bra.
