Psoriasis

I suffer with quite severe psoriasis. It flared up last year when I had my son and I haven’t been able to get it under control ever since. I’ve been offered the tablet as I have already had 2 lots of sun treatments and I’m still only a teen so don’t want to use the beds to much also it didn’t work for me either. Ive tried all creams, sprays and gels known to man.

The tablet is methotrexate I’m just wondering if anyone has had any bad experience’s with the tablet? as I am very sceptical about starting it as there is a lot of side affect that come with it.

Hi OP, I have Psoriatic Arthritis and Methotrexate has been a game changer for me. Funnily enough its not done much for the actual psoriasis, but this time I could barely walk and was on maximum dose if some pretty hardcore painkillers.

Would I take Methotrexate just for my level of psoriasis? No, it's not actually "that" bad but it's been very effective for the arthritis contingent of my disease.

Me. The dermatology nurse explained to me it's a very low dose compared to other things it's used for.
It's really advised you don't drink at all and that's fine with me. I had 90% coverage and it was a game changer.
I take it at night so I don't feel any nausea. No side effects. They do regular blood tests to check you are OK.

Did you try instellar foam? Or however it is spelt.

Enstilar* apologies for multiple posts.

MustardScreams · 03/09/2019 21:33

Enstilar foam is a bloody miracle worker. But not if you’ve tried it and it doesn’t work!

I take methotrexate for PSA and severe psoriasis. It’s really not that bad. I feel a bit grotty the day after the tablet (you take it once a week usually) but it cleared my psoriasis in weeks and has kept it under control with very little side effects. You can always try it and see how you get on with it.

I was offered tablets before enstilar foam. I thought I had exhausted all topical treatments before that. I was only asking.

My dp has terrible psoriasis on his torso. He doesn't like using the creams the doctors give. He tried the baby's farm moisturiser. Soak in the bath every night, have a bit of an exfoliate with the towel and moisturise with that cream. Clears his up in a couple of weeks when he uses it.

MustardScreams · 03/09/2019 22:01

@dontdoubtyourself sorry that wasn’t in response to you - I just didn’t know if op had already tried it and it hadn’t worked. Didn’t word that very well!

Sophiej99 · 03/09/2019 22:06

I haven’t tried the foam as of yet the dermatologist has just today gave me a prescription for it I’m hoping it works so I don’t have to take the tablets.
I just assumed that after 8 years of psoriasis and trying so many things that it wouldn’t help me but I suppose I won’t know until I try.
Thank you so much for your help If the foam doesn’t work I will most likely give the tablets ago and see how I go with them

Does anyone know if the enstilar foam can be used on the scalp?

User07 · 03/09/2019 22:11

Ive had psoriasis since I was 9....im now 30. Ive had every treatment except the tablets. Ive been offered the tablets on 3 seperate occaisons, Ive always turned them down as I knew I wanted more children, my consultant also seemed keen on me not having more children once I started these treatments and personally in my family someone had taken methotrexate and had bad side effects.
I have had my life time allowence of the lights treatment.
This time I was told I had one last chance for a topical treatment before they would strongly advise I started tablets.
They gave me enstilar foam, it completely cleared my psoriasis, I have to use it regularly but find it easier to deal with that other creams, gels etc
If you have not tried that maybe have a chat with your Doctor about it first if your unsure on the tablets.
