Is there such a thing as a wipe my son can use

After a vigorous gym session before going back to school for the afternoon?
Apparently shower at school are too hideous!
I wondered if there was a teen version of baby wipes?

Baby wipes aren't just for babies. If he's embarrassed by the packet put them in a diff bag.

StrumpersPlunkett · 03/09/2019 20:22

Will they cope with 15year olds post gym smell and sweat?

Try the Johnson's ones in the pink packet - I've found they eliminate smells really well. Otherwise is it possible to take a wet flannel in a ziplock bag and quickly wipe himself down?

kaytee87 · 03/09/2019 20:34

A wet flannel and soap would be more effective.

I think I'd just be encouraging him to use the shower though. He could wear flip flops.

proudredhead · 03/09/2019 20:34

God I can't see how any form of baby wipes would clean a teenager after a vigorous work out Confused it's a bit gross tbh - he just needs to deal with the awful showers and have one!

jazzandh · 03/09/2019 20:44

If he showered in the morning before school and used a strong anti- perspirant such as Mitcham, I would think with a quick flannel over he will not be particularly noxious!

It is old and stale sweat that smells and lingers......

Yoohoo16 · 03/09/2019 20:46

Something like this maybe. www.shower-in-a-can.co.uk/pages/how-do-i-use-shower-in-a-can

HowlsMovingBungalow · 03/09/2019 20:49

Washbag with flannel and soap/showergel and flipflops/sliders.

Ylvamoon · 03/09/2019 20:50

I second baby wipes. My DD uses to have them.
If it's to embarrassing, I think there are some other (more expensive) freshen up wipes on the market.
Or better for the environment: reusable baby wipes = wet & dry flannel and good deodorant. I weaned DD into this and it's working well!

JoxerGoesToStuttgart · 03/09/2019 20:57

Tell him to brave the showers wearing flip flops.

Are you sure it’s the state of the showers that are putting him off? Could there be some bullying or inappropriateness going on with the other lads and he just wants to avoid it?

JoxerGoesToStuttgart · 03/09/2019 20:59

Things have probably changed now but when I was at school you weren’t allowed to skip the shower after games. Everybody had to wash! Thankfully tbh.

june2007 · 03/09/2019 21:08

Baby wipes won't do the trick and I don't thick in this age of environmental awareness that they should be encouraged. I get the gross school showers but I think it should be encouraged for your child to shower. Say shower or smell.

cookiemonster5 · 03/09/2019 21:11

At my school and my kids school you only shower after swimming. There aren't even showers in thx changing room. Never knew this was a thing.

StrumpersPlunkett · 03/09/2019 21:13

Not drop feeding. The showers are separate from the changing room and he would have to go to the staffroom and get s key (so he says)

So what does everyone else do?

StrumpersPlunkett · 03/09/2019 21:20

Stink by all accounts or lots and lots of lynx

You can get deodorant wipes. I’ve used them when I’ve slept on the plane and have an onwards connecting flight. Dove make them for men and women in the US, I’d be surprised if they’re not on sale in the UK too. He really should shower if he can though!

StrumpersPlunkett · 03/09/2019 21:21

He is bothered today because he has found a love of going to the gym over the summer and his sports kit was wringing wet with sweat after today’s games lesson.

LIZS · 03/09/2019 21:23

Don't most just layer on deodorant or smell?

newtb · 03/09/2019 21:33

Used to play lacrosse 4 times a week and our school didn't have showers - 800 girls stinking to high heaven. Lovely!

horse4course · 03/09/2019 21:33

If he's that sweaty I don't think a wipe will cut it. He needs to just wash, it can't be that bad.

StrumpersPlunkett · 03/09/2019 21:34

Think I will go with baby wipes in disguise!
Thanks for your help.

Johnson’s do a wash wipe that’s in a yellow packet a lot bigger and smell nice might be worth a try - also face wipes might be better and more soothing than baby wipes

Grimbles · 03/09/2019 21:40

You can get a 'wetbag' to keep wet flannels in and then wash and reuse them.

I use them instead of wipes for DD when changing her bum and wiping her face/hands after eating.

JoxerGoesToStuttgart · 03/09/2019 21:44

I found “body wipes” in Poundland. The packet says something like “for when you can’t get to a shower”. I bought them for my DS (14) when he goes camping where there are no showers but he hasn’t been since I bought them so can’t say whether they’re good or not. They’re massive though and I do feel bad about dumping That much wipe in landfill every time he needs a wash. I might actually persuade him to try the wet flannel in A ziplock instead.
