Astigmatism and contact lenses

Has anyone with severe astigmatism found a brand of soft contact lens that doesn’t spin around when you blink?
I haven’t had any for years but thought I’d give them a try in case they had moved on but no joy. Not sure what brands but have tried about three different brands so far. TIA

Not sure if my astigmatism is severe but I have astigmatism in both eyes. I use Acuvue moist daily lenses for astigmatism and they seem comfortable enough

Do they move when you blink? All the ones I’ve tried are comfortable enough but sometimes they move when I blink and won’t go back again.

What do you class as severe astigmatism?

Are you using toric lenses? I have (apparently) quite a significant astigmatism but I didn’t get on with them so I wear normal daily lenses.

SuzieBishop · 03/09/2019 20:09

Used to work in a contact lens department and have astigmatism in one eye! My contact lens optician would always order toric lenses from Coopervision as they were more durable.

Off the shelf soft lenses, whether for astigmatism or not, only fit 60% of the population well, 20% ok ish and the rest not at all. If your current lenses don’t work then you may need a bespoke soft or even better a gp rigid lens.

PrincessConsuelaTheSecond · 03/09/2019 22:35

Clariti daily toric. They don’t move.

DramaAlpaca · 03/09/2019 22:37

Another vote for Clariti, they stay put.

MsFrosty · 03/09/2019 22:40

Acuvye moist daily are the only ones that worked for me

Cherrysoup · 03/09/2019 22:42

Topic dailies.

I use Acuvue Oasys for astigmatism and get on with them well.

MulticolourMophead · 03/09/2019 23:55

I've got the Specsavers torics, they're fine, but have heard that I can get them direct from the manufacturer cheaper.

D D has a mild astigmatism but can't get on with torics.

Whitetulipofpeace · 04/09/2019 17:49

I use daysoft. They've always been fine with my astigmatism unless I have existing irritation.

Yerbumsootthewindae · 04/09/2019 18:13

I am very short-sighted with bad astigmatism in both eyes, I use Biofinity tonic which I think are made by Coopervision. I get them from Boots but have seen them elsewhere too. They're very comfortable, don't spin and don't feel too dry.

minipie · 04/09/2019 18:15

Acuvue Oasys here. I don’t actually know if my astigmatism is mild or severe though

AnchorDownDeepBreath · 04/09/2019 18:18

I've got Acuvue moist too, but my astigmatism isn't severe. My optician gave me loads of brands to check and see which were most comfortable, so it could be worth visiting one.

Lauren83 · 04/09/2019 19:40

I use coopervison biofinity toric and have never had problems, I have severe short sightedness and severe astigmatism

Rainbowhairdontcare · 04/09/2019 19:46

I have 6 dioptres on each eye of pure astigmatism. All contacts move so I only wear them for vanity sake as I know I'll always be slightly blind.

Whatthingsexactly · 04/09/2019 19:52

Mine is strong, and I never found any contacts that stayed straight enough to be reliable. Not even the custom made ones, as opposed to daily or monthly lenses. Really annoying.

underneaththeash · 04/09/2019 21:12

it’s all very individual, so what’s right for one eye won’t be for another.
Mark Ennovy lenses have changeable ballasts (that’s the bit that stabilises the lens).
Gas permeable lenses usually give better vision to astigmats.

36degrees · 04/09/2019 21:41

I did use Toric Coopervision monthly but my provider told me they have been discontinued and I am being moved onto Johnson & Johnson fortnightly ones. My depth perception is rubbish regardless (although far better with contacts than just wearing glasses) and my left contact (worst eye) never sits properly.

TheElephantBallerina89 · 19/08/2022 19:27

Sorry to hijack an old thread, but I have astigmatism (both eyes) which really affects my ability to drive at night. Have tried "anti glare" prescription glasses from specsavers to no avail as well as the yellow tinted glasses off amazon which only helped a little. I'm wondering if contact lenses helped any posters driving at night? Absolutely hate autumn/winter due to my inability to get around and paying a fortune in taxis to get to/from work
