Hysterectomy or radio frequency endometrial ablation anyone?

So, I’m 52, fit , have pcos which is mostly under control ( I’m very veet strips best customer) but clearly heading to menopause.
My periods went from zero( only plus of pcos) or barely there to 21 days out of 30, not consecutive and pretty heavy, after a few different hrt attempts gyno has fitted Minerva coil and I use oestrogel.
It improved for 3-6 and has been declining to discharge and light bleeding...
Are you still with me, apart form being totally fed up and pd off at my vagina, my dreams of love in the afternoon with du as both dds off to uni next week are yesterday again dashed before they even started.
Ffs..so, I’ve endured another search for my uterus, he insulted my womb said it was bulky(?) and has left me with the option of the above procedures.
Please anyone, advice if anyone has had these as the ablation is less severe but warned it may not stop bleeding.
The hysterectomy will mean no gym for 3 months and I’m a CrossFit addict but would stop all pcos issuses and no bleeding.
Confused...

My friend and I both had an endometrial ablation.

I had Novasure but my friend was unsure which method they used on as she went to a different hospital and had it several years after me.

I had mine done under general anaesthetic as I was having keyhole surgery for an Ovarian cyst which as it happens has shrunk when they went to remove it! So they decided to do the ablation at the same time.

I digress. My ablation was the best thing to ever happen as it stopped my periods completely. I had been suffering for some years with very heavy bleeding and flooding.

Gone completely and I am over the moon still some 7 years later.

My friend however still suffered with heavy bleeding and her cycle all over the place. It’s made her very bad tempered and bitter to the point where she has cut off seeing most of her friends.

Glad it worked for you...I’m concerned I’ll end up with a result like your friends. Which is a shame as recovery I’d pretty quick.

Similar experience to PP. I had two ablations, the first one lasted about 4 years before the heavy bleeding started up again, so it was done a second time. It was brilliant, and meant I didn't need to have a hysterectomy ( for severe endometriosis) until I was 47. They were literally life changing for me, and the recovery was really quick, just a week or so. Good luck with whatever you decide.

Oh i’m Really interested in soola’s mate’s story.
I had an ablation after being massively anaemic. Periods much calmer now, I can use normal tampons rather than flood through a super plus in an hour.
But I have massive pmt. never had it before. Every second month I have a couple of days when I need to be really careful what I say and who I speak to.. this isn’t awful obv and i’m Not sure if It’s The ablation, my second child being crazeeeee or just my age??

I have never for a second regretted my hysterectomy(Dh calls it my Hystericalectomy) of course it takes a while to get back on your feet but to never have a period again is like living a new life. You can swim when you want, wear a dress or white trousers without fear and never have to worry about ruining a mattress again.

I didn't have a hysterectomy, I had my ovaries removed. The consultant told me that the ablation wasn't guaranteed to work and would only control the bleeding and not the pain. I have no regrets and not having to deal with periods anymore is heaven.

Undecidedsofa · 03/09/2019 17:57

I had an ablation 2 1/2 years ago and have not had a period since, I was suffering with flooding and anaemia and a lot of pain. My PMT has lessened, although I am not sure how/why, but I am not complaining, andI have barely any pain (endometriosis) .
I had the novasure procedure and faced that or hysterectomy; my consultant was amazing. I chose the ablation as I would have found it very difficult to recover from a hysterectomy as I am a lone parent and logistically it would have been a nightmare and that is what swayed it for me; I was told that if the bleeding and pain came back then I could have it repeated or opt for the hysterectomy then.

Thanks all, some interesting stories, my main concern is it not stopping or just re starting a few years later.
We are lucky enough to have health insurance, but only for next 2 years, so am erring towards a hystericalrectomy( loved les Dawson too) as dh can actually be at home with some forward planning for a month.

I had an ablation last year and my periods stopped for about 6 months. They have come back with a vengeance though so I am having a hysterectomy later this year, providing my scans come back ok.

I had the Novasure procedure.

Chesntoots, I’m pretty sure given my crap luck that’s what would happen, so I’m truly leaning to hysterectomy next Feb.
It will be done with then. Good luck with yours and thanks everyone.
