What does your 2 year old play with?

Morning all,

My nearly 2 year old has moved up to the tweenie room at nursery. I noticed that the majority of the toys they have there are very different to the toys we have played with before.

Can you recommend me the toys your 2/3 year olds loved? Also what books are reading your little ones?

We have a birthday and Christmas coming to and I want to give her 2 new toys for each that will be long lasting and fun.

Thank you 😊

DS was 2 in July. He loves playmobil 123 and a toy farm with animals, we have a le toy van one. The scuttlebug is also popular.

Book wise, he loves the tiger who came to tea, Elmer and the acorn wood series.

DGS is very fond of his traffic rug. What he really likes though is elderly relatives to exhaust.

Mrsducky88 · 03/09/2019 12:31

Brio trains and track, duplo, stacking rainbow, wooden animals, wood blocks, drawing things.

Books wise she loves the gruffalo, were going on a bear hunt, tiddler, snail and the whale . She also has a few simple fact books and a “my first animal encyclopaedia” which she loves looking through and identifying the animals.

Get a big roll of lining paper from B&Q or Wickes for her to scribble on. That, and a 100-pack of sharpening crayons/ wax pencils.

Croquembou · 03/09/2019 12:40

DN is a shit feminist and likes her kitchen, her hoover and Disney princesses.

We tried, we really did.

Minai · 03/09/2019 13:28

Ds1 is 2.3 and he likes brio trains, cars and a car park, duplo, happyland bus and fire engine, play doh, colouring book and crayons.

Di11y · 03/09/2019 13:33

play doh, mega blocks, peg puzzles, colouring pens, sticker books, marble run, puppy vet kit, baby and accessories.

2 2 weeks ago.

NoKnit · 03/09/2019 13:40

Toy kitchen if you have space for it. Or a tea set

ChildminderMum · 03/09/2019 13:43

Baby dolls & pushchairs, duplo, happyland, playmobil 123, dinosaurs, cars & garage, marble run (needs a lot of adult involvement though!), playdough.

meepmoop · 03/09/2019 13:44

Cars, cars, cars and Cars. Sometimes he'll play with his train set but mostly cars.

He does love his balance bike also

WellTidy · 03/09/2019 13:45

Noisy books, board books, flap books. Happyland. Little slide. Paddling pool filled with balls. Garage. Boxes of wooden eggs, food, teaser, kitchen. Magnets (as long as they’re not putting them in their mouths). Mini laptop or computer type noisy toys with multiple buttons. Play doh. Peg puzzles, basic jigsaws. Wooden train set. Snap (towards 3yo).

Camomila · 03/09/2019 13:46

Croquembue Great name/pudding btw.
S'alright, DS completly ignores his dolls/pushchair and craft stuff and has encylopeadic knowledge of all vehicles instead.

On that note brio train track is the most played with toy here, along with plastic construction vehicles to do various feats of engineering in the sandpit.

Ollypops14 · 03/09/2019 13:48

My patience Smile

Equimum · 03/09/2019 13:49

At 2, mine both loved the toy kitchen, Brio trainset, play doh, dolls, little animals (Schleich etc), scooters (from about 2.4) and balls.

Wheresmrlion · 03/09/2019 14:15

Kitchen gets played with every day, setting up picnics and going ‘shopping’ with the toy food.

Duplo and blocks most days. Crafts, stickers, crayons. Just started trying cutting with scissors and those books where you follow the dotted lines to make letters and numbers. Magic painting books are fab.

Train track (mostly bigjigs) with electric train from John Lewis to run on it. Happyland tree.

An Evo scooter and helmet.

‘10 little’ books, usborne lift the flap colours/shapes/numbers, peep inside books.

SalemSpellman · 03/09/2019 19:56

Thank you for all these suggestions. The grufflo is standing out as a clear favourite.

I'll shop round and find some of the suggestions.

Happy Land, toy kitchen/food/trolley, baby & pushchair, wooden puzzles/shape sorters, Thomas trains/track.

gonewiththerain · 03/09/2019 20:07

Brio, other Thomas and friends trains, tractors and diggers, sand pit, wooden farm, Noah’s ark
The brio or cheaper big jigs is the most popular

Fuzzyspringroll · 03/09/2019 21:02

Cars and a multi storey. Lots more cars. He also has a baby doll that has to come with us for everything.
He likes the Gruffalo and the Cave Baby book. He's also quite fond of "What the ladybird heard" and has a little book about 10 dinosaurs that got lost in the city and have to be spotted on each page.

Heartofglass12345 · 03/09/2019 21:09

My son is 3, he likes duplo/ Lego, cars, play food and tea sets, crafts, drawing, shooting me with his pretend gun, giant bowling, kinetic sand/ rock/ play doh, jigsaw puzzles, jenga. Goes through phases with cars and trains. He loves the Thomas the tank engine books, funnybones (he loves skeletons lol) and the that's not my... books.

Heartofglass12345 · 03/09/2019 21:10

Oh yeah mine likes marble run too, he's getting good at creating his own now! There's a duplo block type version too which isn't bad.

TheJoxter · 03/09/2019 21:14

Duplo, playmobil 123, Brio train track, cars, marble tree

And of course his very favourite is the one noisy toy he owns that was given to him by a well meaning friend
