What could stop the government being able to remove the whip from rebel MPs and other questions.

Can the government really remove the whip from rebel Tories before a snap general election as Johnson has warned?

How does that work in practice, and what might stop him being able to remove the whip?

This really scares me.

If they do succeed in removing the whip, would all of the very pro no deal candidates put in their place win Tory seats that are pro remain?

As I understand it, all of this is circumvented if MPs manage to take control of business today, win a vote against no deal and also win a vote against a snap election?

I think they can remove the whip.

However - a popular local MP in an area that doesn't want No Deal could win a lot of support from local people who don't like what's being done.

Interesting times.....

The whip can be removed and imo should be from anyone like Hammond who is back channelling with the Commission, against the MPs wishes. He was just as bad when he was Chancellor, and May should have got shot of him ages ago.

It depends if those under threat would vote against the Govt, now consequences are clear. May wouldn't act, but Boris will.

Let’s hope so, because the no dealers are a minority who do not represent the population at large or their interests IMO, and are foisting themselves upon us.

Shocking scapegoating of MPs and parliament by Johnson IMO - as evidenced by Nigel Evans personally attacking Sam Gyimah on Breakfast this morning.

And not wanting no deal does not mean not wanting Brexit - or accepting that it will go ahead, as people like Hammond do.
