What would you have done? Tube and Phone...

Jumped onto a tube today... spotted the train doors open as I rounded the corner to the platform, so was moving quite swiftly to get on to a relatively empty train.

Happened to bump into someone who was looking at their phone. It wasn’t a hard knock at all, but I did make contact with them.

Their phone fell to the floor. They, after a few seconds (I was turned the other way) tapped me to get my attention to show me their screen was cracked badly.

They didn’t speak English and I was only going one stop.

What would you have done?

I agree with most other posters, apologise and move on. Accidents happen.

Seems like most people would have done what I did.

Had I really bumped into the person with significant force, I may have done differently but this really wasn’t that, it was a light jostle the likes of which happen a thousand times a day on the tube.

So, I apologised when it happened, then looked sympathetic when they pointed out the screen and again when I left the train (having, by this point, worked out they didn’t speak English).

I didn’t think of it at the time but there was absolutely no way of knowing it wasn’t already broken.

I’m glad most of you would have done the same.

OP, the Tube is a place where one is always being bumped or knocked and the other person had his phone out at his own risk. More so, if the glass was large and vulnerable.

It was one of those things. Don’t worry. Accidents happen.

If you use a phone in a busy public place then expect to get knocked by a passerby.

I did the same thing this morning. I was hurrying to the station and collided with a girl coming towards me staring at her phone. It wasn't deliberate. I moved a bit but I wasn't going to step in the road for her.

As soon as it hit the pavement I knew it was shattered. She called after me but why should I stop?
