Hi I’m unsure as to which cat to get either a Russian Blue or a Devon Rex, anyone have either of the above. Would love to hear from you.

Do consider that pedigree breeds may be subjected to being stolen.

Unless you want to be cruel and keep it indoors.

Don't get a pedigree, get a rescue. There's thousands of unwanted cats langushing in rescue up and down the country, including 2 gorgeous kittens in my house right now (I foster for a rescue charity).

There, I think we've got the 'adopt don't shop' message out there, so someone might not be along to answer the OPs question about which of two (very different, I believe) pedigree breeds she should go for Smile.

Op you can buy any cat you like!

You can also adopt.

I don't have either of those breeds as I signed (in blood) the 'committed to Orientals for life' pledge.

I also have a rescue blob cat.

Hope someone will be along soon with actual answers for you.

I don't know about those particular breeds but please be aware that certain breeds of pure bred cats can have genetic health problems specific to their breed.

It can be very upsetting for the owner & distressing for the cat as my sister found out when she owned a pure breed cat which sadly died young and had suffered from every ailment that the breed is known for.
He was always at the vets.

Having said that, my last rescue moggy died young of cancer so the 'cross bred / mongrels are stronger' thing isn't always the case.

If you do get a cat, any breed, get comprehensive pet insurance- I recommend Tesco.

Get a rescue of course. It's a no brainer.

smartcarnotsosmartdriver · 02/09/2019 10:34

I would suggest contacting local breeders for more information about them, they live with the little dafties so they'll know their personalities better. I would personally love a Russian blue, they are so beautiful the only one I've ever met was very fluffy (thick fur not long) and very chatty. I haven't met any Devon Rex cats outside of cat shows so I don't know what they're like to live with or anything like that.
All that being said I do have 2 moggies and I love them dearly and yes pet insurance is a great idea, my mum has spent an eye watering amount on her moggie recently.

Russian Blues are amazing. I’ve had two and they were both very intelligent and loved people. One would play fetch and greet you at the door like a dog.

thecatneuterer · 02/09/2019 13:38

Why either? Why not get a rescue?

Aitchy0191 · 02/09/2019 16:25

Smilethsnjs. Are they destructive at all. I will have a cat play station with plenty toys and he will have lots of company as well.

My carpets take a battering. I have moved rugs around the house to try and stop this. Mine is nearly 11. So doesn’t do much anymore. I prefer older cats as they are much calmer and not manic like a younger cat.

JapaneseBirdPainting · 02/09/2019 17:07

Oh I adore the orientals. Sigh. My DH came with a Burmese. (I came with a fluffbag moggy ball of adorableness).

Sigh. cats. Best ever. One of ours is a right fighty cow so we can't introduce any more cats into our household just yet. [muses longingly]

JapaneseBirdPainting · 02/09/2019 17:08

Sorry... what was the question Blush
