Where can I donate my wedding dress?

Any ideas where I could donate my wedding dress? The style is old fashioned but the fabric is nice and i’d like somebody to use it if they can. I messaged all of the charities I could find and nobody wants any right now. I don’t really want to put it in the charity bag

There are charities which make old wedding dresses into gowns for stillborn babies. Our local maternity unit collects them so you could try that? If you don’t mind it being cut up. It’s a good cause.

I took mine to a local charity shop, i didn't ask before hand, just mentioned it was a wedding dress when I dropped it off.
They put it on a mannequin in the window and I assume they sold it as it was gone from the window a few days later.

How odd the charities you contacted didn’t want the dress. Most of the charities that have charity shops have a few shops specialising in wedding dresses and dresses coming into one location gets sent to the other (they do this for other items too, moving between shops). Oxfam is one that comes to mind

I contacted all the charities I could find who make gowns for stillborn babies and none if them need any right now. Will try maternity unit and oxfam, thanks! I don’t want anything for it, would just be a shame to put it in the clothing bin. It’s kind of 90’s old fashioned so i’m sure no one would want to actually wear it

There’s a charity called Bonny Babies that make gowns for still born babies - I donated my dress to them around 5 years ago - they will let you know what they make and send you a little keepsake pouch made from part of your dress back.

Looks like they are accepting donations.

There is a dogs trust charity shop near me that has 2 wedding dresses in the window. Could you look up where your nearest dogs trust charity shop is and see if they'd take it?

There is a website called 'still white' that sells second hand wedding dresses. Could you sell your dress on there and donate whatever money you make to a charity of your choice?

God luck and congrats on tying the knot!

I desperately wanted to give my wedding dress to a charity that made gowns for stillborn babies as it was very personal to me. After over 2 years of keeping my dress and waiting for charities to contact me nothing happened (despite my best efforts of trying every time donations opened, I was always the one that was too late) and I took it to the local charity shop, I needed it to go after two years of consciously making a decision to give it away (I loved my dress, it wasn't an old dress either) I just needed it to go. I hope you are successful x

www.wishforawedding.co.uk/#donate-dress

This lovely charity helps organise weddings at short notice, minimising stress and potential debt anxiety, for couples dealing with terminal illness.

Flowers Well done for wanting to put it to a good cause, whichever you end up doing!

You're completely right about needing to let go of the dress, it was an awful marriage and now I'm married again and life is so different. I just want the dress gone, but it's so wasteful to throw it in the bin. It's not much but I would love to see it benefitting someone in some way.

If you are in South Wales then try www.pritchardandmoore.co.uk/

It’s a preloved bridal shop and all the proceeds go to Cancer Research. I bought my dress there and donated my Mums to them. They are lovely

Blobby10 · 02/09/2019 08:44

Called into my local Oxfam shop and they said they sell them on ebay, even the old meringue style ones from the early 90s!!! So that's where mine will go once I get a Saturday free to drop it in.
