Jet Lagged - help!

Finding myself still wide awake with jet lag yet due to be up for work by 8am I am freaking out so looking for mumsnet wisdom!

Had a flight Saturday night, got back 11am yesterday having not slept at all on the plane due to kids taking it in turns to need attention for the whole flight. Had to sleep as felt faint but got up at 4pm yesterday afternoon.

Time on holiday was 5 hours behind uk.

So now I'm here wide awake and stressing over work. Even worse, Tuesday I have to be up at 5.30am!

Anyone got any good jet lag tips please or am I doomed to feel awful all week?!

NC'd as friends/family might well figure out this is me from the above combined with other posts!

Snap! I came back from NYC landed sat morning, didn't sleep for 35 hours and now boom wide awake!

At least I have a jet lag twin!

Not sure why it's irritating me so much! I should just embrace my inner zombie and accept the inevitable maybe!

Tomorrow may be a bit tough, but you will be fine by Tuesday. Just drink lots of water, eat frequently and get an early night after work.

The quickest way to recover from jetlag is to adopt your new sleep routine asap, so going to work will force you to do that. As pp said drink lots, small meals, be nice to yourself, good luck!

Thanks!

I'm not feeling good unsurprisingly and I only made it up a few minutes before my first meeting (from home!)

In the office tomorrow and already panicking about the 5.30am start but know it's a first world problem and I was lucky to have had the holiday

My rule of thumb is 1 day for each hour's difference, so East Coast US, it takes 5 days before your body clock returns to normal (and I find going west to east much worse than east to west).

On first day back I allow myself a short nap (as like you, I never get much sleep on overnight flight home), but then try to go to bed no earlier than 9pm. Try to maintain a routine as much as possible (so wake up at your normal work-day time). First couple of days are the worst, but after that you'll be fine.

@EmmaStone

Thanks, I hope so! Yes going I was fine the next day and just went to bed at the right time.

Today I feel pretty awful!

Hello jet lag twin! I only woke a few times last night and by 9am I was flagging but a full days work and parent duties this evening will see me back into a good routine x

jetlaggedhelp · 02/09/2019 20:18

@icanbreathagain that's good! I worked from home but didn't actually achieve much!

My 5.30 start tomorrow should fix (or break!) me.

I'm waiting for son no 2 to go to bed (he's a stubborn terror) so that I can collapse into bed. Really hoping I actually sleep though. Why do kids always have a sixth sense for the nights it would be really BAD for them to be difficult!
