It’s September! Let’s talk organisation...

My favourite subject. I swing violently between super organised, never late, completely up to date and being a procrastination queen! I’d love to be a bit more consistently brilliant.

Two things I’m going to attempt; the organised mum method for my house cleaning and freezing sandwiches on a Sunday for the week’s lunches. I’ve followed TOMM for months but not quite managed to fully follow it. And the sandwich thing sounds crap but everyone raves about it.

What’s your September tips? I love this time of year as it feels like a proper reset on our lives and routines.

Anyone else?

I do the freezing sandwiches, (saw it on mumsnet) the sandwiches taste alright - remember to get them out the night before, frozen ham ain’t nice.

I buy a Sept - Aug calendar for the next school year.

I’ve had my hair thick, shoulder length tied up for most of the summer, always get it cut shorter (bit longer than jaw length) in mid Sept.

Change the living room’s scented candle/diffuser over to a more autumnal spiced scent by late Sept.

Ooh that’s helpful because I was going to get them out each morning, I thought they’d defrost by lunchtime.

You can freeze sandwiches? With the filling in? Does it work with every filling?

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 01/09/2019 21:34

Online grocery delivery every Sunday
Big wardrobe clearcut for all in the household - get rid of stuff, so it's easier to keep on top of what's left
Sort out a week's outfits every Sunday and hang on hangers

Deelish75 · 01/09/2019 21:43

Freezing sandwiches - I just do ham and chicken. Never tried it with cheese or eggs, think that might be a bit 😷

GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat · 01/09/2019 21:49

Apparently nothing with mayonnaise/salad cream will work.

we have a 28 day menu stick to the cupboard doors

Isthebigwomanhere · 01/09/2019 21:53

Breakfast stuff out ready every night before bed
I normally get a weeks worth of clothes out on a Sunday ( including underwear)
Hung up in day order on a rail
Online food shop delivered every Monday

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 01/09/2019 22:05

Also, repetitive but boring packed lunches. I tend to take the same thing every day for a week, to avoid waste but also to avoid having to think. So I'll have a week of cheese, crackers and grapes; a week of Quorn and salad sarnies; a week of Brie baguettes etc.

Frozen sandwiches are really disgusting. They either go soggy or dry. Can you not make them the night before? Or send the bits for a DIY sandwich?

twirlypoo · 01/09/2019 22:12

I’m just following for the tips to be honest. I have a academic diary too though - I go through at the start of term and put in all the parents evenings / cross country races / assemblies I need to be there for.

Other than that, I am a disorganised nicompoop the rest of the time, and i am sick of winging it!

My daughter starts full time nursery this week and l have had a good start this last week. The man at the tip is like my new best friend, l found a charity shop open in a Sunday.

All l have to do and let have saved for this is get my oven cleaned, my window clearer to do the inside of my windows and a a cleaner to do A deep clean (dust and polish) l am going to have these done while l am in alone and pretend l have done it all. I know this is deceitful but l don’t care, and lm going to crack on with my Christmas shopping.

We have a blackboard with the week ahead schedule for all 4 of us on it. On Sunday afternoons we have a big dinner and we all discuss our weeks ahead and add the the blackboard.

Then we are all aware to remind one another about remembering musical instruments, various sports kits. Also DH and I keep on top of who is doing why pick up.

Fortnightly Ocado delivery. Loose meal plan for evening meals but rigorous lunch plans for everyone’s packed lunches.

Great thread idea op. On my side I've installed the famcal app which has made a huge difference to us being all on top of things. On top of this I got a big stick on blackboard wall paper thing which is divided into three sections: 'food shop' where we write anything that's run out immediately, 'things to do' eg buy x present, make dentist app, flea treat cat etc and then 'upcoming events' like nights out, kids parties etc. I take photos of this in the am so I always know what's happening. Online shop every Friday am and a three week kids meal plan stuck to the fridge so I never have to think 'what's for tea'. I come in from work look at the plan and just haul it out of the fridge. Where I'm falling is the cleaning though. I tried tomm but it seems like I do min 30 mins a day just keeping the kitchen reasonably clean, doing laundry and rapid fire cleaning the bathrooms (small boys, wee so has to be done daily) so to then do another half an hour on a particular room whilst trying to do bath and bed time is impossible. Sometimes I dream of having a housekeeper 😂.

Hoolajerry · 02/09/2019 05:11

We have a whiteboard in our kitchen. It has meal plan for the week on it, all our activities, shopping list that gets added to and reminders.
We get shopping delivered every Sunday. School uniform for the week sorted on a Sunday night.

Della1 · 02/09/2019 05:45

Uniforms, bags, shoes etc laid out in the living room the night before so no looking for lost items in the morning.

Any party invitations I check the calendar, reply to straight away and put it on my shared iPhone calendar. Stick invite on fridge.

Read online school newsletter and put important dates e.g. non uniform day, on my iPhone calendar.

Empty book bags straight after school to check for said invites or letters.

Appointments straight onto calendar- check on a Sunday night for the week ahead.

A load of laundry every day/every other day and put away straight away so no pile up of clothes.

Quick, easy dinners e.g. stir fry. Freeze pasta sauce so always a back up dinner.

GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat · 02/09/2019 10:18

I’ve blitzed my kitchen this morning and prompted by not being able to find things that they needed yesterday, my teenagers have sorted out their wardrobe. We have two full bags to charity shop. Feeling positive!

I don’t make my kids packed lunches they do it themselves but I just thought collectively it would save time, food waste and from running out of bread! If it doesn’t work out then we’re no worse of than we currently are.

Penultimate day of the hols for all of us today.

I've managed to order some repeat prescriptions and close down an old savings account in town.

Have to do another last minute run to the school uniform shop as have realised one of the boys needs a new pair of PE shorts. I thought it was all done.

Really need to get motivated to sort out all outstanding tasks as this will my last days of work until October half term.
