Can someone clever explain this? (Calories and maths)

Going by the table below I need -410 calories a day to get to my goal.

If my resting metabolic rate is (I believe) 1800

So if I eat 1200 calories a day I have a deficit of 600.

So 1200 - 600 = 600

So to get to -410 ... I would need to burn a further 1010 calories? Is that right? Confused

It says u need to eat 1817 to maintain your weight
So if u plan on eating only 1200 u will lose weight without having to exercise
I don't understand why u are doing strange sums
If u run and burn off 300 calories u can eat 1500 calories that day
Why r u making it so confusing?

dementedpixie · 02/09/2019 20:04

It's the amount the OP wants to lose that is the issue - 28lbs over 44 days. It means eating very little and exercising a lot

NewAccount270219 · 02/09/2019 20:05

Argh, every time the thread is nearly sorted and in agreement someone new comes in to misunderstand the maths!

well- if that someone new is me, then fine. I am just saying what I am planning on doing!

NewAccount270219 · 02/09/2019 20:15

No, not you Japanese, sorry! It was Jesse, though rereading it she just says the OP could lose weight by eating 1200, which is perfectly true, it just won't be anything like the amount she wants to lose

JapaneseBirdPainting · 02/09/2019 20:18

No worries New. :) I have not even remotely followed the maths!!!!!!

Ponoka7 · 02/09/2019 20:23

The weightloss that you want to achieve can only be done by taking in 600-800 calories and either that's it, or burn the rest.

You're making it over complicated.

I'm doing Exante and everyone gets those type of results that you want.

Jaffacakebeast · 02/09/2019 20:31

The maths are bad, as in not possible. You would probs pass out it you tried to expel all those calories while only taking in 1200.
Athletes don’t expel that many calories and they’re probably on 3k a day intake.

Basically the grey line on you’re Fitbit would need to be x4 bigger than you’re coloured line. If you manage this check your heart stats :/

ThatCurlyGirl · 02/09/2019 20:35

I have no idea why I've just spent about half an hour reading this thread because I knew I would end up not understanding any of the maths.

One of my friends goes through phases of wanting to lose huge amounts of weight in a matter of weeks and starts trying to research deficits, macros, ketosis etc

The best diet she's ever done? Eat three light and healthy meals a day and do exercise every day. Surely it's worth trying that for one week at least?

I know it sounds simple but in the time it's taken to try and figure out these sums and the stress it's caused you could have meal planned and sorted an exercise schedule for the week.

Jesse70 · 02/09/2019 20:39

U have to burn an extra 2900 calories per day from exercise if eating 1200 calories a day here is a calculation

Fyi that's more than a marathon a day good luck Hmm

RoryGlory · 02/09/2019 20:47

It’s 6 weeks not 4

U can take a couple of days off then lol

In all fairness it seems unlikely u will lose what u want but if u are determined u will defo be on the right track
Is there a reason the weight loss is so specific?
What u were before? Maybe or a certain dress size?

CandyLeBonBon · 02/09/2019 20:55

You'd be better if going into ketosis

CandyLeBonBon · 02/09/2019 20:55

Off.

Well i apologise if mentioning the possibility you could seriously damage your heart, has offended you?
It's just a muscle, it does get broken down in conditions of extreme calorie deficit, and is particularly sensitive to electrolyte imbalance. And if it stops then that tends to be sudden and irreversible.

I'd say the same thing if you'd decided to replace food with vast quantities of water, or take dodgy slimming drugs, or whatever.

However, it looks like you're not actually planning to do a HM a day on 1200 cals, so I'm somewhat reassured.

Well no it was clearly said in a wouldn’t it be hilarious if you died and please ensure someone updates us if you do.

I don’t find someone dying particularly funny.

Also Jesse that calculator doesn’t take into account your current weight, height etc

OP posts:
dementedpixie · 02/09/2019 22:34

That doesn't matter as its purely working on the premise that you need to burn 3500ish calories to lose 1lb. It still comes out with roughly the same values as other calculations on the thread.

1200+2227 = 3427 calories to be burned each day

RoryGlory · 02/09/2019 22:36

However, it looks like you're not actually planning to do a HM a day on 1200 cals, so I'm somewhat reassured.

Only because even now I still have do flipping clue what my total calories burnt should be!

I burnt 2788 calories on my Fitbit and ate 1350 calories.

I thought that gave me a deficit of 1438

But then people are saying to ignore the calories I naturally burn by living.

I DONT GET IT! This thread frustrates the life out of me.

1200+2227 = 3427 calories to be burned each day

But then some people are saying I’d need to not include my BMR.

So I’d be looking at 5000 calories burnt on my Fitbit every day

dementedpixie · 02/09/2019 22:40

So you should lose weight on that amount of deficit but it won't be as much as what you are trying to lose
