Just come back from holiday, cats must have had them because house is infested. What the hell do i do tonight??

DidILeaveTheGasOn · 31/08/2019 21:31

Burn the house down to the GROUND.

OR.

I don't know, we currently have the same problem, watching with interest. Have already treated cat, cleaned house top to bottom, washed bedding and duvets and pillows etc. Think next stop is flea bombs. And then, probably, fire.

mumtooneyr · 31/08/2019 21:32

Buy flea spray spray it everywhere Vac with vac powder or carpet flea powder de flea ur cat asap

Rockbird · 31/08/2019 21:33

We've literally walked in the door and the dds were covered in them. We've been away for over a fortnight so they've obviously had a field day. I don't even see how we can sleep there tonight.

Any vets with late night opening hours? You need to get a household spray from the vets and get the cats treated.

EskewedBeef · 31/08/2019 21:33

Get some Indorex spray tomorrow, probably Pets at Home will have it. It seems expensive, but it is effective.

dementedpixie · 31/08/2019 21:35

What flea treatment are you using? You should use a vet strength one. Indorex is supposed to be good for treating the house

Bacawill · 31/08/2019 21:35

Get on Amazon Prime and order 3 bottles of Indorex. Expensive but amazing.

There's no way I'd be staying there tonight though

Lemoneeza · 31/08/2019 21:35

do you know anyone with a cat that you can borrow a can of indoorex from? if not, get one first thing tomorrow. and book a vet appointment, you'll need prescription strength flea medicine for kitty.
if it's really bad I would check into a Travelodge tonight.
this summer has been really bad for fleas, you're not alone.

Rockbird · 31/08/2019 21:36

The cats are with a cat sitter (cats protection so she knows what she's doing). We're due to collect them in the morning.

GiantKitten · 31/08/2019 21:37

If it’s the whole house would your best bet be professional exterminators?

We’ve had a mild infestation this summer, & between flea spot-ons, hoovering & Indorex i think it’s under control 🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻 but it wasn’t a massive problem. In your position I think I’d be burning the house down too Shock

EggysMom · 31/08/2019 21:37

If the cats are still away, I'd be inclined to get a flea bomb and set it off in the house; and take yourselves and children off to a hotel for the night!

OrangeSwoosh · 31/08/2019 21:39

Late opening pharmacy may have something. You need a treatment for the cats (you can get these from pharmacies - get Advantage, dont get frontline) and you need a household spray (you may be able to get these from a pharmacy too). For this you want either Indorex, Acclaim, Staykill or RIP Flea.

You need to treat the cats (do you have any other animals). You'll need to know their weights for Advantage (whether they're under or over 4kg).

For the house, they're not going to go overnight. Firstly vacuum really well. Fleas and their eggs aren't sticky so this will get rid of a lot. Then use the spray as per the instructions. Leave it 24 hours then vacuum daily after that. You will need to go in all the places they like - dark, undisturbed places - under the sofa etc. Vacuum vigorously as the vibrations will stimulate the fleas to come out of hiding.

These household sprays will give protection in the house for 12 months. You'll need to treat the cats regularly (most preparations are monthly) as a preventative.

You should also worm them as the flea is a tapeworm host.

GiantKitten · 31/08/2019 21:40

fwiw I do the killer cat (the guilty party) with Advocate (prescription only) & the other 2 with Advantage (OTC).

If yours are overdue I’d get some Advantage from pets at home to be going on with (but leave them with sitter until house is sorted)

EskewedBeef · 31/08/2019 21:41

Do you think the cats protection woman will have treated the cats? Getting them back in the house will help if they've been treated recently.

GiantKitten · 31/08/2019 21:43

I found this recently (I bought my last lot of Advantage from this website) & it’s become my bible for ongoing flea situations. Seems to be working 🤞🏻

(But I still think you need to get the pros in tomorrow if poss)

Indorex is worth every penny and it solved my problem when I had similar.

I walked in from travelling overnight with my little ones and their PJs were covered. Luckily it was actually only in my living room, which is split from upstairs by an uncarpeted kitchen and a hallway.

The indorex is easy to use, works well.

Janleverton · 31/08/2019 21:48

We had this. It was grim. You could see the carpets hopping. We did this:

Advocate on cats. Their next dose had been due while we were away. So as soon as through the door, put it on.

Kids to another house for impromptu sleepover.

Indorex on every carpet. Particularly round skirting and nooks and crannies.

Also flea bombed the worst rooms (downstairs).

Janleverton · 31/08/2019 21:50

Yes, luckily our hallway is wood floored and so was mainly the carpeted rooms (thought still did indorex along the skirting everywhere)

EskewedBeef · 31/08/2019 21:50

Yes, the cats will get bitten obviously and will scratch like hell, but the fleas are killed by feeding on animals that have been treated. Treated cats plus Indorex should break the cycle, then a proper regime in future to prevent another infestation. I can recommend Broadline to treat the cats - again it's expensive, but it works.

dementedpixie · 31/08/2019 21:51

It's best to get the cats in once they have been treated as they will help kill them too

dementedpixie · 31/08/2019 21:52

It's stronghold plus I use on mine

GiantKitten · 31/08/2019 21:52

Indorex is actually cheaper at pets at home than amazon (& amazon prime isn’t offering delivery till Wednesday ShockAngry)

But amazon have got Homegard for delivery tomorrow (allegedly)

NotWavingButMNing · 31/08/2019 21:53

My mother had this last year. Indorex didn't touch it. I ended up getting pest control in. Twice. Don't hesitate.
We had to bin all cushions, bedding.

captainprincess · 31/08/2019 21:55

I found Indorex works brilliantly, you can get it on Amazon.
