I’m looking for holiday reading recommendations! Just finished my last purchase and trying to find something amazing to read in the last few days of freedom. Will tolerate almost any genre except except extremely romantic /soppy....please help with next choice!

@Spinderellacutituponetime Re The Best of Everything - I never watched Mad Men, but apparently one of the male characters read it to gain an insight into the workings of young female minds.

It was written in 1958, set in 1952, and it follows a group of young women in New York, starting their careers and negotiating their way around love.

I never watched Sex and the City either, but guess the premise sounds similar!

So far it has struck me as surprisingly modern (although some of the references have obviously dated) and universal.

There are loads I really enjoyed, however I think my favourites are
One Day by David Nichols & then by Jojo Moyes, me before you. There are 2 follow ins to that which are good too, after you & still me.
I re read those a good bit, but nothing compares to the first read of a book when you don’t know what’s coming!

What a great thread! Can I add the following which were really enjoyed by my book club: How to Stop Time by Matt Haig, the Rosie project, the end of the world running club, the historian. Am about to read 'the help' by Kathryn Stockett. Recently really enjoyed 'normal people' by Sally Rooney. My favourite is possibly a thousand splendid suns, which someone mentioned up thread. Hard to choose! :)

Spinderellacutituponetime · 31/08/2019 21:46
