Mould! Any tips?? (Removal of, not acquiring)

I have mould. It's in the bedroom, on the outside wall. It's been there for as long as I can remember. It's in places that are difficult to get to, like underneath the pipes and, probably, behind the radiator. In the past I've cleaned surfaces with a bleach solution, but as my health hasn't been great for quite a while, I'm afraid it's been partying unfettered for some time.

I'm now wanting to kill it, so am wondering how best to go about it and how to prevent it returning? Would very much appreciate any tips on mould murdering.

It also tends to make clothes mouldy in a nearby chest of drawers which is against the outside wall.

Apologies for terrible quality of pics, I don't have a steady hand.

Cillit Bang black mould remover is good.
Is there a leak in your guttering etc that could be causing it?
A dehumidifier run for an hour or so every day could help too, plus opening windows every day and not drying clothes on a maiden or radiator in there if you do.

The only thing you can do is to spray it to kill it with the spray you've been using, and to make sure it doesn't return by opening windows regularly, moving furniture slightly away from walls and keeping the house well heated.

Oh yes, and of course not drying clothes on radiators and a dehumidifier is a good idea too.

It doesn't sound like mould caused by a leak. It sounds like condensation mould.

I get a lot of condensation mould in my well insulated house. Nothing seems to get rid of it completely, I think it's just something you have to keep on top of.

Astonish mould remover. Cheap as chips in the bargain shops and it works miracles. I’ve been scrubbing the walls with bleach for years and it never quite cleared but one squirt of Astonish and the walls look fresh painted!

Thanks for the replies. The bedroom window is open for approximately six hours a day, often more. Other windows in house also open every day. Definitely no drying of clothes in bedroom or on radiators.

HunterAngel - will look out for Astonish mould remover tomorrow - thanks.

thecatneuterer - it probably is condensation mould as certainly, in winter, it gathers on the window very heavily.

Think I've got a dehumidifier somewhere. Must've used it at some point - oh, is that the one that gathers water in a container from the air? If it is, I stopped using it as no moisture was being gathered!

Yes that's a dehumidifier. There must be something wrong with it (or you're not using it right) if it's not collecting water. They collect surprising amounts water even from rooms without a damp/mould problem.

So do you have the windows open that much in the winter? Is the house well heated in the winter?

BigbreastsBiggerbeard · 01/09/2019 11:13

thecatneuterer - Yes, I keep the windows open in the winter too. The kitchen and bedroom windows are open every day while I'm out. I think it's well heated in winter, and the radiator is on the outside wall (the mouldy wall) in the bedroom too.

I'll get the dehumidifier out and have another crack at it. Going to have a go at removing some of it today then hopefully keeping on top of it. Sure I can smell it too.

Thanks for all replies!
