Recommendations for campsite in Spain?

Hi - looking for a campsite in Spain for next summer (August). The single most important must have is plenty of English speaking children for very sociable 11/12 year old only DS, and a swimming pool, with perhaps some activities. He has no interest whatsoever in waterparks or high slides etc, just jumping in the pool, making friends. He is also not sporty, not a footballer etc, but we might sign him up for activities as a way of making friends. If he is happy we are happy, and he needs kids to play with, so we are leading with his needs.

Also must have air-conditioned accommodation, and not be plagued with mosquitoes. We'll rent a car so can be a little remote, but near an airport convenient for flights from Ireland is a big plus.

Additionally desirable but less important:

  • We would love if it wasn't too noisy (e.g. especially not loud entertainment and music) though must be busy enough for DS to make friends, so we are prepared to compromise on our hatred of entertainment.
  • A beach would be nice
-Nice to sit out quietly with a glass of wine in the evening outside the accommodation
  • Things to do or sights to see in the locality
  • Village in walking distance

Is this an impossible ask??

Thanks in advance to anyone for replying - might be a while before I get back to this but I will reply eventually!

Sanguli resort - think that’s how it’s spelt!

ChittyChittyBoomBoom · 31/08/2019 11:32

I just came on to say Sanguli too. We’ve just got back and it’s been absolutely fantastic. We booked through Eurocamp but you can book directly too.

Thanks for the suggestions.

Just had a very quick look at Sanguli - it looks enormous. Is it very busy and overwhelming or does it just look like that on the website?

I don’t know what it’s like now, or if it fulfills everything you want, but in the 80s we used to go to Playa Montroig. It was ace!

LeDoThoil · 31/08/2019 11:57

Playa Montroig looks just that bit quieter than Sanguli, which is good.

I guess what I want is a balance between there being a very good chance for DS to make friends and not being on a monster camp - so ideally it would be terrific if there were no night time entertainment at all, for example (as I said we would compromise here, but would like it to be towards the smaller end of the camp world).

So lots of English speaking kids (essential), a pool - and maybe not much more? Is that at all achievable??

All the camps seem very big, lots of night time music, all bells and whistles etc. But if we go small and quiet I worry there won't be many English/Irish families....this is the dilemma I am trying to resolve...

Chances are you would be placed far from the disco bit. We were always somewhere near the back, away from the beach.

The pitches were nice and roomy. It never seemed too noisy/crazy. It felt very safe and civilised.

How old is DS?

There was always a great mix of mostly various Europeans. Most of the kids spoke some English. We made loads of UK friends too.

Great pool, great beach.

Ah, I’m getting all nostalgic.

We stayed in Playa Joyel in Noja last year which is 30 minutes from Santander if taking the ferry is an option. Plain swimming pool (ie no slides) but a fabulous beach and river. The campsite had all nationalities there but my children are not sociable at all so I've no idea about clubs etc. There was a good playground for older kids, the small town is walking distance and the campsite was not noisy. We booked through Eurocamp and had a lovely Irish couple looking after us. I can't remember if the accommodation had aircon as it's northern Spain so bearable heat. The site is flat too so kids can easily cycle everywhere. I don't remember it as being noisy but there was a concert on in the town (2 or 3kms away) and the noise went on til the wee hours.

We got a boat into Santander one day which is a lovely town (city?) And easy to get about on foot. We were pleasantly surprised at how stunning this part of Spain is.

This place is near Girona airport and also a one hour drive from Barcelona. The beach is a 3 or 4 min drive from the site. We used to take the kids there every summer and they never failed to make good friends. It was VERY quiet at night. I seem to recall the bars/discos etc shut at 11pm.

Thanks everyone, I'll look at all these suggestions when I get a chance. Have to do a bit of housework now sadly 🤣.

Park Playa Bara. Not far from Barcelona.

Fantastic pool, right next to the beach. Loads of kids/teens for him to hang out with.

ginyogarepeat · 31/08/2019 12:34

I've been to tamarit park resort and it was fab. Pools, activities, private beach, not too big, air con in accommodation....
We flew from Ireland too (to Reus) and hired a car, but I'm sure other options are available. Salou and portaventura isn't far if theme parks are his thing, plus day trips to Barcelona etc are possible by train. It's fab!

Fundays12 · 31/08/2019 12:37

Cambrills park near salou is meant to be excellent though pretty expensive.

ChittyChittyBoomBoom · 31/08/2019 13:18

Sanguli is massive but it’s really well set out and there’s enough space and facilities that we didn’t feel it was crowded. The entertainment was quite loud and if you were in a pitch nearby, it would definitely disturb you. We were in an Azure lodge which was far away so weren’t disturbed at all, it was a very quiet part of the park.

Perhaps a smaller Eurocamp site might suit?

hairychinsrus · 31/08/2019 13:32

Following! Like the sound of the one from Santander

LeDoThoil · 31/08/2019 19:34

Thanks everyone, loads of great ideas there.
