Anyone else spending time ironing or sewing labels on to their childrens school uniform? I have one older DC so most stuff needs doing, and small DC who is starting nursery so everything inc pants.
Fun stuff!!

I use pre-cut labels (WunderLabels) and a sewing machine on zig zag stitch. Easy, quick and no hand sewing. Have honed this skill over the last 13 years.

Shoe labels are just stuck in.

spiderlight · 31/08/2019 11:15

Nope. Stikins! Did the lot in about ten minutes yesterday.

AlbusSeverusMalfoy · 31/08/2019 11:53

I have iron on ones. Sounds simple .. but I hate ironing, however seemed easier then the sewing.

For iron on ones, try using hair straighteners, I’ve never done it but apparently it works quite well! For the future, I recommend Stamptastic. Just stamp the pad and stamp the label. Job done and not so hot to apply!

Millie2013 · 31/08/2019 13:01

I can’t sew, so I buy stick on labels from my nametags. Best things ever, last lot lasted 2 years

KitKat1985 · 31/08/2019 13:03

I tried doing iron-on ones this morning and half of them didn't stick properly. I gave up in the end and just wrote DDs name with a sharpie pen on the labels. Much quicker and easier!

steppemum · 31/08/2019 13:11

I am obsessiver about labels.

Everything is labelled twice.
One nice sewn in label, sew at each end so it makes a strong hook to hang with too. That label is for teachers and child to find itme etc.

Second is permanent marker, written clearly on something that can't be easily cut out, above label, etc.
That lable is for the CF who like to steal other people's stuff and cut the labels out.
And I label everything, everything in their pencil case etc etc. Mostly with sharpie.
We've never lost anything (well, until secondary when they left it on the train, but that is slightly different.)

BEDinhalfanhour · 31/08/2019 13:13

No, we use Stikins. It takes about 2 seconds per item of clothing, bags & shoes etc etc.

Even her lunch box & water bottle have survived a year in the dishwasher with Stikins label.still attached & not faded one bit.

Clever stuff.

lljkk · 31/08/2019 13:15

Today is the day! Blitzing thru DC's school clothes (youngest starting secondary, elder 2 have different uniform). Labels, sewing, checking sizes... omg. So much to do.

oreosoreosoreos · 31/08/2019 13:19

Buy a Sharpie. Write name on label. Job done!

hormonesorDHbeingadick · 31/08/2019 13:22

Stamptastic all they way.

Moana123 · 31/08/2019 13:28

Stickins here too! Will never use anything else now, they never come off.

ThePhoenixRises · 31/08/2019 13:31

KitKat1985

Don't write on the labels, they can be cut out, write on the actual clothing its self.

KitKat1985 · 31/08/2019 13:42

@ThePhoenixRises Dear God do people really cut the labels out to steal the clothes?! DD1 just about to start primary so this is completely new territory to me.

ThePhoenixRises · 31/08/2019 14:00

KitKat1985
Unfortunately it does happen and it's happened once, with a pair of shoes, 2 DC, same pairs of shoes, one a size bigger and a newer pair, my DC came home with the older smaller pair and never found his again.

confusedandemployed · 31/08/2019 14:01

No idea why anyone would waste their time doing this. Get a laundry pen and write on.

AlbusSeverusMalfoy · 31/08/2019 14:22

Laundry pens dont always work, our unform is dark, and as PP said, people cut labels out. Ive done older DC, younger DC can wait a few days as nursery is a few weeks off. Phew

Youngandfree · 31/08/2019 14:26

No...I don’t label a thing! 😂 2 years in and we haven’t lost anything yet!

AlbusSeverusMalfoy · 31/08/2019 15:16

Wish i had that confidence. First year of secondary school, the most expensive pe ive ever purchased... lost in a matter of weeks. We got it back.. it had DCs name in.

IggyAce · 31/08/2019 15:17

I just use a sharpie, much easier.

steppemum · 31/08/2019 15:19

youngandgfree - well you are very lucky and veyr unusual,a nd a pain in the neck form a teachers point of view.

Can you imagine, warm day, all kids have removed their identical cardigans/sweatshirts and non have names?

Just write your child's name in!

And yes, lots of people do steal other kids clothes. One person I knew wrote their name on the insode of the sleeve as well as in a visible place, so that she could always prove it was hers!
Same with lost property - some people go through the box and help themself.

ColdCottage · 31/08/2019 15:35

Stickers!!

oohlalabel.co.uk/

Work on clothes, bags, bottles, anything. Dishwasher and washing machine proof.

Win!

Youngandfree · 31/08/2019 15:38

@steppemum that’s funny because I am a teacher so I don’t have to imagine anything! However I will add I am not in the uk and here when a child removes their jumper they have to ask and it goes straight into their school bag! We also don’t subject our teachers into waiting for a class of 7 year olds to get changed into PE gear, they just arrive into school ready for PE. Also in all my years here I have never had a jumper stole not either 😬

loutypips · 31/08/2019 15:42

I just write names in with a biro. Lasts ages, then just do it again when it's faded.

Youngandfree · 31/08/2019 15:43
