Holiday in Norfolk.

Does anyone have good advice and tips about a week in Norfolk next week?

We're going away for a last holiday before school starts and were hoping to do wales but weather looks awful. Norfolk's weather looks nice but I know nothing about it! (And it's so bloody far from everywhere - every time I think "well if it's not what I'm hoping for we'll drive to xxxx" it's 4 hours away.)

I've wanted to go to BeWILDerwood for a while and this looks a good chance but is it as good as it looks?

We're in a campervan and like chilled out basic sites where the kids can run about, nice walks/bike rides and local pubs. We like to be busy and outside.

I'm totally overthinking this but I'm feeling really anxious about school starting, DD is very scared and trial sessions have not gone at all well, and I think we could all do with a really lovely holiday as a distraction!

Please help!

Had holidays in Norfolk for the last 3 years so can thoroughly recommend it.

And always had good weather.

Well apart from the snow , but it was March - absolutely stunning.

Love Norfolk try Waxham Sands

You could sit it? Half the week North Norfolk then come down to Suffolk border. Best of both worlds I'd say 😀

You should visit Redwings Horse Sanctuary. It's a nice day out( if you like horses and donkeys of course).

Break Farm near Holt is a great campsite if you like fairly basic facilities and lots of space - it's a working farm so you can see the chickens and pigs and it's close to Sheringham and Cromer one way and not too far from Wells, Holkham and Blakeney the other.
You can get the steam train just down the road, and you can walk through the woods to Kelling Heath, which is a much bigger site with a shop, adventure playground etc.

That should read Breck Farm.

Breck farm is great, it's next door to the big kelling Heath site. It's one of the few sites where you can have your own campfire, which is usually a bit hit with children as well as the adults! It doesn't look much when you arrive, just a big field really, but once pitched you'll realise it has a real back to nature charm. If you stay there you're not far from Salthouse, where you'll find Cookies shack, a very rustic 'shack' where you can take away (maybe down to the nearby beach) or eat in, very fresh seafood platters. Have a great time!

Check out Clipsby Hall for camping. A great campsite with 5* facilities but set in a beautiful location.

Norwich castle is fabulous for children.
The broads are lovely, you can take a boat out for the day, or even for a few hours.

Robin2323 · 01/09/2019 09:59

Norwich is great too.
Visited the cathedral when they had the helter shelter inside?

LifeOfBox · 01/09/2019 10:14

Oh yes, I forgot about Norwich's Castle Museum despite having annual membership for years 😂. It is probably one of my favourite UK museums, has everything including a mini version of the Natural History museum with some incredible things to see.

A Norfolk museums pass also gets you into the Workhouse at Gressenhall which is a full day out with the farm and playground.

There is a beautiful site called BumbleBarn bell tents (run by a fab mnetter too!) that does Alpaca walks- whilst you have your site sorted, their website/fb page is a brilliant resource for local stuff too. They are near Sheringham- I am most certainly taking their Alpacas on a walk next time I'm there, it sounds so much fun!

GlitchStitch · 01/09/2019 10:25

Norwich has loads of lovely churches too, there's one by the lanes in the city centre that is now an antique place with loads of vintage stuff, it's like a treasure trove, I could spend hours in there! Currently in my bed with a coffee listening to all the church bells going (like I said I'm biased!)

Enjoy your holiday wherever you end up OP.

Norfolk is amazing and well worth it. Campsites to look at are Pinewoods (fab beach), Kelling Heath (indoor and outdoor pool plus nice pub for food) and Sandringham (more basic but still lovely as it’s in a woodland setting). You MUST MUST go to BeWILDerwood if you have kids. You could spend the whole day there. Wells next to the Sea has fab beach huts and an amazing beach - I always think it looks like somewhere abroad / more exotic (South of France). Go crabbing in Wells harbour. Go to the Globe Inn In Wells for a fab meal then play on the village green after (Butlands). Eat fish n chips from Frenchies in Wells town near the harbour. Let the kids play on the park in Wells which is near the amusement arcades and a great waffle shop. Head to Holt for a civilised walk round the shops and eat in Byfords. Go to Holkham Hall and go on the large free wooden play area then walk towards the hall for the lovely cafe. Try a train journey on the old steam railway. So so much to do - well worth the journey. We’ve been back year on year. Enjoy.

All sounds fantastic. Thank you so much.

Still not sure what to do, my daughter is desperate to go to London and my husband thinks it'll be easier but Norfolk sounds great and you've all given me such fantastic recommendations.

Thanks all, either way should be a lovely week. Wish I'd taken a lot more holidays before school started now!
