To ask about my new kitten

We picked up our first kitten today! (9 weeks old). We are keeping him in the spare room, however my partners snoring has driven me to the room with the kitten.
As soon as I came in, he hopped up onto the bed an put his wee head on my arm. I left him for ten minutes then decided I didn’t want to squish him so put him in his own bed. He then promptly got out and played with his toys.
Just as I was falling asleep, he’s jumped up to the bed again but put himself next to my pillow (between the pillow and a toy).
Am I okay to sleep with him their, I shouldn’t squish the wee thing? I think he’s probably missing his other wee kitten pals!

Yes!

Smotheroffive · 31/08/2019 01:20

I would say so too. Little wee thing wants and needs the company. Aw bless. How lovely.

Sweet dreams!

So cute.
You should be fine.
Enjoy

No photo? I think we need a photo. 😊

Bunnybigears · 31/08/2019 01:33

Yes it should be fine, every kitten I have had has spent the first few weeks sleeping under my chin, they soon find their feet and sleep elsewhere.

BarbaraofSeville · 31/08/2019 02:26

We foster and the kittens always sleep on our bed, by their choice, it's adorable. But yes, he's missing his litter mates. They always sleep together at that age for warmth and comfort.

The rescue I foster for won't usually rehome single kittens under about 4 months because the really need a pal to play with as part of their development as well as being able to cuddle up together. Any chance you could get another one from the same litter?

avamiah · 31/08/2019 02:32

Hi
We have 2 cats and one kitten ( 4 months now ) all boys and they get on really well( most of the time) haha

avamiah · 31/08/2019 02:37

I’m sorry but a kitten of 9 weeks shouldn’t be left alone in a room at all as it’s only a little baby and should really be with it’s mum and siblings.

KatherineJaneway · 31/08/2019 02:37

Let him sleep with you, it's all so new to him, he wants company.

avamiah · 31/08/2019 02:39

I agree you should let him sleep near you in your room but you have to “litter “ train him early.

Orchardgreen · 31/08/2019 02:44

Just to warn you.....keep the toilet seat closed. Mine fell in, I heard her and fished her out, but she wouldn’t have been able to get herself out. Although I think her sister pushed her in.....

avamiah · 31/08/2019 02:51

Orchardgreen,
Omg that is so funny as our kitten was up on the wall looking into next doors garden when I saw one of my older cats sit near him , then the older cat ( Dory ) just hit him with his paw and he was gone 😱 into next doors bushes .

BarbaraofSeville · 31/08/2019 02:53

YY to keeping the toilet closed, we've had one fall in this week but he was a bit bigger so got himself out.

Kittens are fine away from mum at that age, and mum is usually keen for them to go, but they should really have at least one sibling for company.

If you only wanted one cat, you should have got an older one. There's usually also lots of young mums at around a year old available in rescues at this time of year, basically last year's kittens who haven't been neutered, had kittens, which they've now brought up and are ready for rehoming on their own.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 31/08/2019 12:11

I think you’ve forgotten something.

WalkersAreNotTheOnlyCrisps · 31/08/2019 12:13

Aww I'd love that ❤

PotterHead1985 · 31/08/2019 12:43

I echo the above PICS!!

Also perfectly fine to sleep with him. He will claw you to bits if you are likely to squish him!!

Veryconfused887 · 31/08/2019 20:46

Thank you for all your advice and sorry for the late update, been having a very busy time with our kitten.

We were actually we’re meant to have two, unfortunately his wee brother passed away two days before we picked them up, and no other kittens left in his litter. We are debating finding him a wee friend.

However he spent last night tucked up with me, then lots of sleeping with me or my partner and lots of playing.

Here he is right now

GigiIdid · 31/08/2019 20:52

Awwww!! He’s so gorgeous! What’s his name?

StinkinDrink · 31/08/2019 20:52

Just for the record the cats 'bed' is not his actual bed, it's there to be sneered at and completely ignored, cat may even sleep next to it rather than in it, window ledges, fruit bowls and coffee tables (in my experience) are far more appropriate for the feline lord you have adopted Grin

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 31/08/2019 21:07

Stupidly squeee. I’m not crying I’ve got something in my eye.

So sorry about his poor brother, though.
