Second driving test coming up, bricking it

I failed my first driving test last week! My instructor was gutted as I'd driven perfectly in the hour beforehand. I failed with a dangerous fault after taking the wrong exit on a roundabout, five minutes in, and panicking so not checking my mirrors, and also got a serious for 3 clearance and obstruction minors.

I've booked another test for next week and I'm nervous. I had been feeling pretty confident. I know I'm a good driver but can't believe I fucked up so badly - aside from that dangerous I'd had 13 minors. I'm going to do a few lessons over the next week to work on things, but I'm wondering whether to cancel and give it more time. Frankly I can't afford to keep booking tests though but worried I'll fail next week.

How many times did it take you and any tips on regaining your confidence?

It took me 9 attempts, but I got there. Nerves ALWAYS got the better of me on the day. 3 years on, I have a clean licence and have driven all over the country.
No real tips, just wishing you the best of luck!

On my final test (there was a few) my attitude was "Well I might not pass but it's a good mock test. Will probably have to go home and rebook after any way".

Just allowing myself to not think of it as the be all and end all helped.
Also remember, they're looking for you to drive safely- not perfectly.

Good luck but I promise you'll get there. I think I'm a better driver than if I would have passed first time.

Don't worry. I was reliably informed after the event I failed my test on the first roundabout. Which was as we pulled off from the test centre. I only got one minor the whole way round but had actually failed immediately as I started. Hesitation apparently and when I did pull out, I caused another car to brake. Although my way was clear when I pulled off and my instructor who was watching, said this car joined the roundabout after me and at speed. It remains a shite roundabout to this day although I am much more confident at it.

My instructor was gutted for me, saying most testers ignore the first roundabout until returning to the test centre because it can be challenging and very few drivers use the correct lanes.

I did pass on my second test. Although when I started going down the same back roads as I had the first, I resigned myself to having failed again and probably relaxed. 3 minor faults but was fine.

My fail was the first roundabout too, but I'm worried about the amount of minors. I fucked up straightaway and knew it so I guess that contributed.

I hope I get the same roads! It was actually an easy route. I just disintegrated from nerves.

I recently failed my test in the last 10 seconds. Despite being a complete nervous wreck I did the route with only 5 minors but then failed to apply the brake as I parked at the test centre and crashed into the wall, giving me a serious braking fault.

Unfortunately I can’t get another test until October now as the test centres near me are all fully booked up. I’m hoping I can hold it together a bit better next time as without the nerves I know I am a safe driver.

Fingers crossed your test goes well.

Best of luck OP
it's a lottery of little things that can go wrong in a test
Just see the people every day who drive like twats and they passed once

@CrazyKittenSmile can you get a cancellation? Check the DVLA site loads. I couldn't get one until October either and then checked on a Thursday morning and got one the next week.
