Wedding anniversary dinner central London

10th wedding anniversary coming up. Looking for something special for dinner.

We’ll eat anything, within reason. We live in the South West so we’re very spoiled for high quality local ingredients down here, especially fish and seafood. I suppose modern European/British is closest to what we would go for given the choice.

@Turnedouttoes food is paramount. If it can be special in terms of location/ambience etc then so much the better.

Ideally, something or somewhere we wouldn’t be able to replicate at home. Given how much SW produce is on the menus at these places, I’m starting to realise just how spoiled we are here!

The combination of excellent food and smartness is what I think we lack here - most places are fairly casual.

We are really foodie and have eaten at lots of lovely Michelin restaurants, but keep going back to Clos Maggiore.

OP- I only asked about dates because I have a reservation for dinner for 2 in the conservatory in September which we may not be able to use - if the date had fitted you could have taken my table!!

It depends how dressy you want; we really enjoyed Frog by Adam Handling in Covent Garden. "Adam's Menu" tasting menu with matched wine was fabulous and very personably explained by chefs and sommelier and Adam Handling himself was there during service (which is directly in front of diners) in an intimate and relaxed atmosphere. Happy Anniversary!

Gah I’m going round and round in circles Confused

Our absolutely favourite restaurant ever is Castle Terrace in Edinburgh. That’s a tip from me, for free Wink

But I’ve been on 4 separate occasions in the last 2 years so time for a change. If only we could pick it up and put it down in London!

That’s quite funny, I’ve just come back to this thread having been to Castle Terrace at the weekend. We were seriously underwhelmed, it wasn’t as good as a restaurant within walking distance of home, same type of food.

I’ve beeb to the new Adam Handling place on Sloane Street and thought it was too gimmicky (had the tasting menu). The restaurant at the Goring Hotel is really good, we are there in the winter and were impressed.

There’s a big difference between somewhere with a Michelin star and one the level below in my experience. I love Barrafina but it isn’t a romantic restaurant as you sit next to each other at the bar.

I can’t really help with places with atmosphere on Saturday nights as we tend to go out in the week rather than at the weekend. Can you get a table at the Ledbury? Are you booking enough in advance for there? It’s v gd.

Wild honey is truly excellent but the ambience is a bit muted

Murano is sensational

Would you do Japanese/pan asian? Umu is amazing, and for a real scene Hakkasan is still fantastic

Pollen st social is still going strong and v fun

Core by Clare smyth (ex Gordon r) is really high end food and delicious - in Notting hill

For me I would go either river cafe or j sheekey but I live in london so they might be a bit boring for you!

Frenchie Covent Garden?

BasiliskStare · 10/09/2019 04:40

Wiltons or 50 Cheyne Walk ? ( Latter newly refurbished and opened )

PalindromicUser · 11/09/2019 07:02

@stealthbanana funnily enough I ended up booking Murano for lunch.

Scene isn’t really our thing.

I’m sure it will be good!
